Improve character's abilities in the game

Post by liorde »

Hello,
I do not recall how this goes, but is it possible to improve a character's abilities throughout the game as he/she goes up in levels ?

Thanks.
Life is short... play more...!

Possibly thinking of IWD2?

In IWD 1 you will come across some potions that will permanently change your character's stats but most of those end up being a trade off (i.e. gain +1 in one and lose -1 in another). IWD 1 is set up using 2nd edition AD&D rules. Perhaps you are thinking of IWD 2 which uses 3rd edition rules. In IWD 2 your character starts with a fixed number of stat points (modified by racial characteristics) and you gain a new stat point every 4 levels.

If you play IWD without expansion you might find a few potions which raise stats permanently without if you are lucky. (you might other more or less useful equipment instead)
If you have the expansions the best you'll get are 2-3 potions which raise wis by 2 and decrease dex by 1. Useless unless you made the mistake to create a priest without maxed out dex.

Better you consider your party's stats as set in stone until the end.
You don't get the chance to raise them when you level up.
