Get to the plains of Oblivion

I am attempting to get the the plains of oblivion to harvest bloodgrass for the vampire cure quest. How do I get there?

find an open oblivion gate If you have progressed far enough in the main quest they will be everywhere. If you look up into the sky and it is discolored (red or purplish) then there should be one near you.

I have never done one of the main quests though. In order to get to oblivion do I need to do a main quest?

yes and no. To get to oblivion you need to go through the Kvatch gate. Once you do that you start the main quest and oblivion gates will start to open everywhere, which might spoil the type of game you wish to play.

There is a way to get bloodgrass without doing the main quest and that is to do one of the Deadric quests. I think it is Boethia. But you need to be level 20 or higher. You will also get Goldbrand as the reward. The quest takes place in an alternate dimension where there is bloodgrass.
