What would you like to see in an Expansion?

Post by Espodude »

If there ever is going to be one, what would you want in it? I think it would be cool to add a small multiplayer lan server thing, were you and 1 lan computer can play together in the same game. Second opening new lands, like Valenwood and where the Argonian live, the Black Marsh? i forgot the name. Well yea thats just some of the things i want in a expansion, what about you?

improved combat.

I've fallen in love with Mount & Blade combat; if combat in Oblivion were to play like that, it'd simply be the best game ever made.

Yes, I can certainly see the attraction, but that type of combat is more amenable to FPS types of games, like Jedi Academy. In an RPG like Oblivion, the actual act of combat is more frequently aim-hit-repeat, with few opportunities for elegant tactical maneuvering. The specifics of combat are left up to the program, not the player. VTMB makes a fairly good shot at a hybrid fighting style that incorporates both types of control, but if you've played that and a FPS like JA, then you know that in VTMB, even with a blade, it's pretty much flailing about whereas in JA, you can actually specifically elect to decapitate an opponent with a specific move. The control mechanism is much tighter, and relies much more heavily on the skill of the player than the game engine.

In Oblivion, you can't do that, and frankly, I doubt that the game engine even supports it. Consequently, I doubt that it is even possible in a mod or add-on. RPGs tend to be point and shoot. That's not good or bad, it's just in the nature of RPGs. Maybe someday...

At least it's better now than it used to be, when in an RPG you would simply elect to attack and from there on in the computer had control until you won or lost. Maybe someday we'll come to the best of both worlds, where you can have an RPG with a true FPS combat interface.

i wish you there would be another quest instead of the main one. Everyone will disagree with me but after about 2 oblivion gates i found the main quest quite...
unsatisfying. i wish they would include black marsh and have a quest like assasinate the argonian emporer or something like that.
Why am I fighting to live, if I'm just living to fight? Why am I trying to see, when there aint nothing in sight? Why am I trying to give, when no one gives me a try? Why am I dying to live, if I'm just living to die?

yes a new land would be great... but yea we need to be able to attack while being mounted...it shouldnt' be that hard...just add a horse "battle horse" which is the only horse you can attack while mounted...shouldn't be too hard at all, it beats going back and recoding or whatever it takes. new race, more items, more mobs to kill, MORE quests, new zones, everything an expansion is made of i want it :P dragons should be a priority...a land of dragons deep within somewhere...if they make an expansion like the old EverQuest Ruins of Kunark. I would bow down to Bethesda.

I'd like to see another land also. I've always wanted to see the Argonian homeland of Blackmarsh, or even the Altmer homeland of Summerset Isle. I'd love to be able to visit my characters homeland and maybe meet his old family! :D

Of course they'll make an expansion. Or maybe two or three. A game this popular gets expanded ipso facto. Bethesda's been in this game for a long time, and they know which side of their toast is buttered.

I agree with you! I really find the Main Quest a bit of a bore. In fact, I've stopped doing it. I just deliver the Amulet and then forget it.

I agree about Black Marsh and the other provinces in future expansions - or future Elder Scrolls games - as well.

And personally I'd like to get shot of the whole Dark Brotherhood thing. I'll never play that guild. It's nasty.

I hope that day never comes. I find that Oblivion has gone as far as an RPG ever should towards FPS. An RPG is about what your character can do, not what you are able to do. Just implementing OOC lock picking is bad enough. I actually prefer a 'select target-choose action' interface as it is in WoW.

Things I'd like to see include:
1. Ability to name your saved games
2. Modified levelling scheme so you can actually put your major skills as majors, not minors...
3. Multiple solutions for quests
4. Extended dialogue replacing the boast/joke/intimidate wheel

Ah, the voice of consent. True enough, though. The FPS interface does have some elements of 'twitch' play that a lot of people don't buy into. I once videotaped my left hand during a round of "The Matrix", and my left hand looked for all the world like an insane spider on drugs dancing to 'machine rock'. I've always been a big fan of it, but OTOH, my fingers haven't been getting any more nimble with the years, so it's getting more difficult for me, too.

The nice thing, though, is that elements like that can be 'browned out'. They can be established technologically so that the young and nimble players can get their freak on, and then optionally turned off, so that people who no longer have the reflexes or those that simply don't go for that kind of thing can optionally turn them off and go for the more classical RPG gaming style.

Me? Sue me. Geek show. I love the micromotor skill challenges. The arthritis is starting to be a bore, though...

Boys, this has happened mildly so far. Lets avoid spam in this thread, as in others. Speculation is accepted but on topic. Keep posting  ;)

Not to put too fine a point on it, Luis, but we are discussing expansions, yes?

Precisely what do you qualify as 'spam'?

Without prejudice, you appear to be a bit of a head-banger in the realm of moderators. That would be power-mad. I've overlooked it for some time, but slamming on *this*? Really? You can't be serious.

I'll be lodging a complaint with Buck Satan. About you. Specifically. Nobody is above the law. Not even moderators.

I wasnt clear enough:

I hope they do, ill get it the first day it comes out.

This is what I mean. The discussion is pretty OK so far, with speculation, I just dont want it to derail into offtopic posts, and "OMG, kewl, I want this expansion so bad".

That's it. Just a warning. It is a very good thread, and I wouldnt like to see it closed because of off topic posts.

During the game they give loads of scope for an expansion. Lots of the NPCs talk of rumours from distant lands. The expansion could involve the uprising of daedra worship in the Sommerset Isles. It could involve Imperial incursions into the Blackmarsh. War between the Khajjit and the Bosmer. etc. Or even the spread of corprus into Cyrrodil.

Personally I'd love to visit the Black Marsh or Elsewyrre. Or even better, Akavir. After reading some book i found in the game i became very interested in Akavir.

Other things i hope they'd include:
More unique steeds (Shadowmere is sort of just for evil characters. What about a noble steed? Or rideable wolves from Skyrrim?
New weapon types. I miss the old spears and throwing knives. Call me old fashioned. I dare you.
More factions. I was gutted when I found out there were only 4 factions in Oblivion. Morrowind had even more, and some pretty special ones too, like the Great Houses. The only really unique faction in Oblivion is the Dark Brotherhood, again just for evils.
Alternative for Vampirism. Werewolves maybe. or sumthing else?

YES, werewolfs please! that would be great, having a special power that you can become a werewolf for like a minute and that you can use once per day, that would be great. Werewolfs kick butt :D

Yeah totally agree!! If theres one thing I surely want to see in an expansion BOTH for Xbox 360 and PC it is Werewolves! I really dont know why they got scrapped in the original (Oblivion), maybe due to balance, who knows? But with the new graphics and nice huge woods in the world of Cyrodiil, I surely want to be one....lurking in hte night But it has to be a bit balanced, since it was alot more rewarding to be werewolf in morrowind than vampire, also the werewolf was very powerful, on the border to be overpowered. I would like to see different color tones on the werewolfs fur, depending on which race and skin color you started out with you character. Like having mostly grey hair and somewhat pale skin, bitten and turning into a werewolf would give you a light-grey toned fur.

Oh and please let that be an ordinary expansion not a part of the lame "pay to play cool content" trend!
Also I dont see why it shouldnt come to 360, I mean even Halo 2 had an expansion on the old xbox.

Yea being able to be werewolf would be awesome, thats one of the first questions i asked my friend when he showed me oblivion, i asked him if there were werewolfs. Also it would be cool if there was a werewolf and vampire guild were both of them are at war or something, that would be nice.

If they will not be included in an expansion we should consider starting a petition, it should be uneseccary...really, because were beasts have always been a part of the Elder Scrolls.
