I remember that I saw this movie as a kid (which I shouldn't have, because some of the scenes are horrible for a little kids' eyes). Anyway. When I was recently watching Mississippi burning again, this movie just came in to my mind again, and has been there since. These are the things I remember from it:
- Based on a real story(?)
- Set in some southern state
- A girl raped, accuses a black man for the crime
- launches a wave of lynching against the black community
- The whites are portrayed really stereotypical
- Train involved in the end
I think this movie is quite famous, but I don't have enough clues to go searching on the internet without using days and days on it. So I was hoping that one of you kind Gamebanshee forum members could help me on this one, because I want to watch this movie over again.
Can anyone help me on the title on this movie?

Sorry I can't be of much help here but I do recall coming across a movie with the criterias you've stated in a certain article in National Geographic. The title of the movie is, "To Kill a Mockingbird." Never watched it before. Just heard of it through there.
''They say truth is the first casualty of war. But who defines what's true? Truth is just a matter of perspective. The duty of every soldier is to protect the innocent, and sometimes that means preserving the lie of good and evil, that war isn't just natural selection played out on a grand scale. The only truth I found is that the world we live in is a giant tinderbox. All it takes...is someone to light the match" - Captain Price

Ok, I'll try to give some more clues. It's not 'to kill a mockingbird' (allthough that one is a real classic!)
Darzog is right about it not being much about the trial, but rather about what happened prior to the trial. The lynching is... very graphical to say the least.
Also, at the end, from what I remember, the hero who rescues the black kids from death, on a train in the end, is a white guy, with glasses. (I may be wrong, but I think so).
I also remember the sheriff, with a really characteristic voice, kind of like when a voice get exhausted from screaming too much, and an old man with a white beard, who is probably the most racist of the bunch.
Would be really grateful if anyone knows the name of this movie, because not knowing it kills me

Any idea of timeperiod (when the movie was made, not of the story, although that would also help)? Or at least black & white or colour? Any actors you might remember?
I think that God in creating man somewhat overestimated his ability.

Try searching on IMDB... here's a link to a search for (racist, african american, based on a true story). It has one that I think might be it... Rosewood.

Heh, I was going to say A Time To Kill because that's the story almost exactly... Not sure about a train though.
