Can anyone help me on the title on this movie?

I remember that I saw this movie as a kid (which I shouldn't have, because some of the scenes are horrible for a little kids' eyes). Anyway. When I was recently watching Mississippi burning again, this movie just came in to my mind again, and has been there since. These are the things I remember from it:
- Based on a real story(?)
- Set in some southern state
- A girl raped, accuses a black man for the crime
- launches a wave of lynching against the black community
- The whites are portrayed really stereotypical
- Train involved in the end
I think this movie is quite famous, but I don't have enough clues to go searching on the internet without using days and days on it. So I was hoping that one of you kind Gamebanshee forum members could help me on this one, because I want to watch this movie over again.

Sorry I can't be of much help here but I do recall coming across a movie with the criterias you've stated in a certain article in National Geographic. The title of the movie is, "To Kill a Mockingbird." Never watched it before. Just heard of it through there.

While there was an incident of a black man raping a white girl in To Kill a Mockingbird, it didn't quite lead to the scenario Gauda's depicting.

Yeah, this first thing that I thought of was To Kill a Mockingbird, but Gauda's description made it seem like there were explicit scenes of something and TKaM didn't have anything like that. Plus it is more ficused on the trial of the guy and not lynching or anything like that.

Ok, I'll try to give some more clues. It's not 'to kill a mockingbird' (allthough that one is a real classic!)
Darzog is right about it not being much about the trial, but rather about what happened prior to the trial. The lynching is... very graphical to say the least.
Also, at the end, from what I remember, the hero who rescues the black kids from death, on a train in the end, is a white guy, with glasses. (I may be wrong, but I think so).
I also remember the sheriff, with a really characteristic voice, kind of like when a voice get exhausted from screaming too much, and an old man with a white beard, who is probably the most racist of the bunch.
Would be really grateful if anyone knows the name of this movie, because not knowing it kills me

Any idea of timeperiod (when the movie was made, not of the story, although that would also help)? Or at least black & white or colour? Any actors you might remember?

Try searching on IMDB... here's a link to a search for (racist, african american, based on a true story). It has one that I think might be it... Rosewood.
Keyword: Racism/African American/Based On True Story...
Rosewood (1997)

And again, thank you every one for solving this "mystery" for me, really appreciate it!

Heh, I was going to say A Time To Kill because that's the story almost exactly... Not sure about a train though.

Tony: I asked a friend of mine, and he thought about the same movie, but it wasn't the one

Rosewood is such a good movie. Ving Raymes (however its spelt) is awsome in that movie.
