I dont mean to be cocky or boss anybody around but the a big problem i see in this forum is that when peope discuss weapons and Armour they they spout AR and attack numbers, then eople comeback and say that the same item isn't as good or better(due to different skills) on their game leading to confusion but the ceators of morrowind reated a sollution to this by giving us quality value, 1500/1500 etc. they even gave us a qv for items like picks probes and torches.
I say from now on when we discuss such items we post qv iinstead of ar and attack value.
doesnt that simply show how many uses it has left?
as in how worn weapons are or how much a torch can burn?
it has nothing to do with how good an item is...
or if it does ive missed sometihng important
You are correct. The quality is just how strong the weapon is and how badly damaged it is. It has nothing to do with attack numbers or armour rating, except that the more damaged it gets, the lower the attack/armour rating will become until you get it repaired. Comparing quality values as if they are armour ratings etc. makes no sense as the two numbers represent different things in the game.

That is true but there is a correlation between an items second number and its AR the higher the maximum quality the higher the AR will be, and the quality is constant and cant be affected by skill.
so maybe not quality value but max quality value.
also picks and locks show how many uses they have left and its quality, say grandmasters lockpick 30 uses and 2.50 quality.

I wouldn't compare lockpicks/probes with armours/weapons when talking of the quality. The quality in lockpicks and probes merely describes how much better better probe is. In armours and weapons, item may be very bad even if it has quality like 1500 or more. Let's take an example (the following item is just imaginary, haven't found such item yet ): If you have two choices, weapon with quality of 1500 but which does only 7 poionts of damage max and weapon which has quality about 500 but which cab do huge ammounts of damage, which one would you choose? I would choose the weapon with higher damage, since you don't do anything with the weapon which does only few points of damage, since many creatures have quite more hitpoints.

in my opinion people should list the level the are with that weapon, the ar and the qv. that way people could get to that lvl. to see if it works the same (this is assumeing they have the same base attributes).
