Mods, mods and mods - Nuts to FilePlanet

Post by Gromph »

Firstly...AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH....k.

I go to download mods, only to find EVERY SINGLE SITE that has them hosts with FilePlanet, requiring me to pay for the pleasure of waiting 20 mins to dl a damned file, not to mention have more adds than I can handle shoved down my throat.

Does anybody know of a place that hosts free mods? And if not, is anybody willing to Zip up and e-mail me their mods?

Only one major Morrowind mod site that I can think of, PlanetElderScroll, uses Fileplanet. You can pretty much ignore the ads there, and I've never seen a download wait on the public servers. I must have used them more than 30 times.

If you want to avoid Fileplanet altogether, I suggest you try The Elder Scrolls Source (TESSource) or Elric's. Both are excellent, but they lack (especially TESSource) the kind of careful file checking you'll find at PES, as well as the elaborate feedback from users.

Fileplanet doesn't let me dl, it takes me to a payment screen when I try, so I went to Gamespot, it is free and I am finding a decent collection of mods to add new stuff.

FilePlanet sets up its screen to give you the impression that you have to pay for downloads. But if you sign up, all you need to do is use the last servers--the public ones, at the bottom of the screen--and download from there. Those are always free.

Tried, times out on me when I do that(my net, she is the lame). Either way, I have no need of FilePlanet anymore. I just finished downloading 200 mbs worth of mods to explore once I get my grubby little hands on Tribunal and Bloodmoon.

Now that I found my place this can be closed up or whatever would be your preference.

Edit: What gets me is that even with a FilePlanet account(free of course) I am still ina queue of 166 people, as number 163......lame....as.....can......be.

Probably time of day. I only download from there in early mornings, or late at night, and never have a problem.

Where did you end up downloading from?

I've rarely had a problem downloading from Fileplanet myself. I generally find the lineups are minimal, and if there is a queue I just go off and do something else until it is ready to download (you can set it so it makes a sound alert).
Though, I have a highspeed connection, which helps immensely.

Fileplanet also downloads automatically if you don't respond within 1 minute so even if you miss the sound you don't lose your place in the queue. For small-ish files like most mods, it doesn't take long for the queue to disappear anyway.

Smallish files of up to 180 mbs. For once such as I(stuck on dialup and only downloading by the mercy of my kind friend with high-speed) a download like that can be the source of an undo amount of strife.

I ended up downloading the majority of the mods here if anyone is interested, it seems to have a decent collection of mods and other assorted files.

It's not a bad site, but it's not regularly maintained, so a lot of recent stuff (as well as upgrades to older mods) are missing. You're better off checking out The Elder Scrolls Source (TESSource), Elric's, and--yes, PlanetElderScrolls, to get the latest versions of mods, as well as the largest variety of mods. Note that while both Elric's and PES check for viruses, note missing or compromised content, and make sure everything posted is playable, PES has a better and more handy feedback mechanism.

Though you should also check out Mythic Mods and its various lists, especially Telesphoros'. Huge number of mods, each linked, all uptodate, with plenty of mod summaries. Nice. :)

I think I may play a clean run for a little while. I'm still trying to get accustomed to the PC controls(while I own the game, I have never actually played it for the PC, only the Xbox since its GotY edition).

*Run off smiling* Time to kill another Ordinator.
