Shapechanging.

Post by Thomas »

I just sent an e-mail to gamebanshee were I asked for a table over the statistics of the various shapes you can change into trough spells and abilities.

I noticed that many don't seem to think highly of the shapechanging abilities but have anyone noticed the sometimes massive resistance bonuses you reach? Turning into a slime, with the 4th level polymorph self spell, makes you immune to magic and lightning. And it lasts for quite some time too. Can you say instant protection from magic scroll?

Turning into a giant rat with the cloak of the sewers gives you 90% resistance to all physical damage, but just robs you of the con bonus hit points plus you are faster than any unhasted opponent. Better "runaway car" can't be found methinks. ;-) Turning into a troll lets you heal the damage real quick to boot.

Wolves are bad fighters but highly resistant to cold. Change Jaheira into her wolf form and when she lured out the enemies zap them with a couple of cone of cold spells. Worked for me.

Of the avengers shapes the sword spider is propably the best. 5 attacks/round with good to hit and damage plus they poisinous in spite of swordsspiders lack just that ability. And the salamander is of course resistant to fire. Drink two potions of fireresistance and you got one heck of a nasty way to draw enemies into fireballs, firestorms and incendary clouds. ;-)

These are just some tips. Most shapes have something going for them and I will propably post more tips if gamebanshee puts up with it. ;-)

I'm not sure about the other things Thomas just posted (I never tested them) but I know turning into a rat with cloak of sewers is awesome. My minsc is equiped with stonefire and frostreaver, and when he hit (in rat form), he gets the bonus attack from both weapon with some major damage. With boot of speed, ring of gaxx and some good weapons, rat can be very powerful. My minsc took down a whole drow war party on his own. To top it off, Keldorn with holy avenger can't beat my little minscy rat.
