Post by Tanita »

I've got a 60k soul gem, yippeee, but with no one to sell it to... booo

I've heard of the creeper creature but that it only has 5k anyway?

What the heck to do with these big items? I also have amassed several gems and other items that are each more than 5k.

I thought I could trade the 60k gem for tons of enchantment but you can't barter those.

You can sell some lesser value things to Creeper or the Mudcrab and then use them to trade with when you sell the expensive item, and just wait 24 hours and keep doing this til you have sold everything. However, if you have the PC version I'd recommend modifying the amount of gold Creeper has. I have done this so Creeper has 200,000 gold per day and its pretty easy to do and is not really cheating in my view as I would have sold the items anyway for full price, this just saves a lot of time and effort :)

The following thread explains how to do this:

Hi :)

I actually don't mind time & effort - I sort of see the elder scrolls as that type of game. Perhaps I'm odd that way. :p

But I took a look at the construction set (1st time) and either I'm doing sth wrong or there's a problem. I go to File > Data Files. Then get a dialog box. I click Morrowind and then 'ok', then get a warning:

Animation group note problem. See Warnings.txt file.

any ideas?

I can't find that file on my CD anyway.

If you get 60k, 30k, 15k, 10k, 5k...etc soulgem/potion/items. You sell the 5k item, sleep, buy it back, sell 10k item, sleep, buy it back. Carry this on, and creeper will eventually be aqble to buy your 60k item.

However, Creeper won't buy all items, so you might be stuck with the soulgem. So you might want to modify other merchants (however they don't have the no disposition to ensure full price sales).

So, there might be a way to change Creeper's settings, but I don't know, however...

*points in Chu's general direction*

He might.

If you don't mind using the construction set, here is the thread explaining how to give Creeper more money.

Ok, let me get this straight. Do you mean I sell low and buy high? That way giving creeper more cash?

I'm trying to work out if I'm going to be selling myself short. ?? I might sell the big item but lost out on tons of cash? I guess it balances out?

lol (no maths whizz obviously...)

As I posted above, I had trouble with the set. But that link has very detailed instructions, so might try again. Thanks a bunch. :)

Thanks everyone else too.

Mudcrab?
Creeper has 5k and buys any enchanted item, potions, soul gems, armour, weapons and pots/plates etc. He doesn't buy books, alchemy equipment or ingredients, torches or non-enchanted clothing.

The Mudcrab has 10k but only buys weapons and armour as far as I can remember.

What I used to do was this:

I'd sell items of lesser value to Creeper until so the total sold was the same value as the expensive item I want to sell. I then sell the item and buy the lesser value items at the same time to keep the total value sold at around 5000 gold pieces. I'd then wait 24 hours and start selling off the items I bought but don't want. If any item is more than 5000 gold pieces I'd simply just use the same method to sell them as I did with the first item so effectively I'm just swapping the expensive stuff for lots of cheaper items so they add up to the same total value then sell the cheaper items back and repeating when necessary.

If you're having problems modifying your game on your own, use this mod, Richer Creeper. It gives him 200,000 gold and I believe it increases what items he will buy.

If you want to do it manually, I recommend killing a few Ordinators in Vivec: (spoiler)
Spoiler
Transport to the Mage's Guild in Vivec, go right outside the Mage's Guild and in that small area there is a single Ordinator. All you need is a bow and a melee weapon (bound items are best if you don't have a really good weapon, long weapons are better). There is a flower bed that you can hide behind where the Ordinator won't be able to reach you. Get behind the flower bed, shoot him with your bow and he will run up to you. Just hack away with your melee weapon and eventually he will die. Drop ALL of your stolen items and go outside to turn yourself into another Ordinator. It will only take about 35 gold to remove the bounty from your head, but he will also take any stolen items you are holding including anything you took from the dead Ordinator's body. Once you remove your bounty go back and get everything from the body. Head back to Caldera and go to the armourer next to Creeper's house. Repair all of the Ordinators equipment (otherwise it won't be full price and trading items worth exactly 2k, 3k, 5k, 7k is much nicer).

The Ordinator gear has a couple items worth 2,000, a couple worth 3,000 one worth 5,000 and one worth 7,000. Before you try this, make a completely separate save game so that you don't accidentally die or get all the ordinators trying to kill you.
Once you have a few pieces of gear to sell in the 2,000 - 10,000 gold range head back to Creeper. It works like this:
 1. Starting: Creeper has 5,000 gold.
 2. Sell him an item or items that add up to 5,000 or close to it.
 3. Creeper now has items worth about 5,000 but no gold.
 4. Click rest, it will say you can't rest you can only wait, so wait for 24 hours (you can do this right next to Creeper you don't need to find a bed).
 5. Creeper now has the items worth ~5,000 and he has 5,000 gold again.
 6. Sell him something worth 10,000 gold and buy back 5,000 worth of items at the same time. You are giving Creeper an item worth 10,000 and getting back 5,000 in gold and 5,000 in items. Creeper now has an item worth 10,000 and no gold.
 7. Wait for 24 hours again. Creeper will now have an item worth 10,000 and 5,000 gold.
 8. Now sell him the items worth 5,000 again.
 9. At this point Creeper will have items worth a total of 15,000 and you will have made 15,000 gold. You can continue to do this until you can sell your 60k soul gem but you need to have enough items that Creeper will have 55,000 gold worth of items or you will lose money. (You would be selling 60k soul gem for 5k gold + 55k worth of items then you have to go through the whole thing to sell all the 55k of items back).
Personally I think it is much easier to get a richer creeper so you can sell all at once.

That was explained a lot better than my sorry attempt to explain it lol.

Another way to get the lesser value items to use with Creeper (spoilers so highlight):
Spoiler
As for smaller items to sell, you can also pick some ordinator gear up in the barracks in Halls of Justice underneath High Fane in Vivec. There is a chest or two there which you can steal from without anyone seeing you. If you have telekenisis you can also steal some more stuff. Also in Vivec, in the Telvanni Canton, there is an enchanter and you can get into his back room (after killing a couple of rats) and pick his chest and help yourself to enchanted items ranging from a few hundred gold to 10000 gold pieces. These can be sold to Creeper.

Sell them to the alchemist in Balmora, near the Temple. She has quite a bit of cash :)

Really, just modify Creeper it's a complete waste of time to sell 5 thousand a day anyway. I did it the hard way till I had about 500k until I decided enough was enough, my creeper now has more money than all the people in the land of Morrowind.

If you can wait I'll post a mod that gives creeper 500 000 and makes him buy anything.

I think that would be a great mod!

I'm not sure I would use it myself. I know it might sound crazy, but I really like this game, and I don't play to 'win' or get to the end. I play it to play it, so I enjoy finding ways of achieving things, like who will buy what. I don't mean I never take short cuts, but especially with this charcter, thief, part of the fun is conning, sneaking around and working out sneaky ways of doing things, rather than slash and grab or just getting to the end.

Maybe it's just me *shrug* ;)

I don't class it as great. I made it in thirty seconds for personal use.
