Whats a good 'good-aligned' party to have.. if my PC is an Inquisitor?

Post by Fenrir14 »

One of my favourite classes in the game is the Inquisitor, and even though it is pretty stupid because of Keldorn (feel as if I'm wasting him). Anyway, what would be a good 'good aligned party' if my PC is an Inquisitor? Would like it definitely include Imoen and Jaheira.

Also, my second favourite combination is the Thief/Mage (preferably an Assassin/Swashbuckler dualled to a Mage). So should I give in to not choosing an Inquisitor, and go with a Thief/Mage in order to get Keldorn in my party?

Thanx to anyone that can help me, I'm basically just asking what some good combinations are for a 'good aligned' party as I'm having alittle trouble..

Secondly, before I post this. How does Viconia and Haer'Dalis cope with a 'good aligned' party? I really like both these characters but don't want them to have any arguments with anyone as I think it ruins the game (would personally like companions to like eachother)

Also, I really don't mind using Shadow Keeper, so If someone could maybe think of a good party for me, and I could just change them with SK, then thats fine too. But I'd really rather play the game normally, as SK takes alittle fun out of the game, in my opinion anyway.

Thank you everyone.

Very slightly spoilerish

This might be a stupid answer but in short: Any! Just pick the characters you like - some with spellcasting abilities and some fightertypes - and you are ready to go.

If you're playing an Inquisitor, you should - as I think you're suggesting - leave out Keldorn. This has at least two possible advantages. First of all it gives you the opportunity to include Viconia permanently (referring to another of your questions), which I find.....intriguing. Another upside is that you can distribute the gauntlets of dexterity to Anomen instead of Keldorn.

I kind of like the idea though of two paladins in the front row so why not play a Cavalier together with Keldorn?

possible spoiler

Hear Dalis shouldnt cause you too many headaches unless you are romancing Aerie.Personally I was never all that impressed with him sitting back singing "inspiring" battle songs while the rest of my party was in the heat of battle. Having said that, Ive never kept him around long enough to witness his expertise after a few level ups. So its really up to you. Sadly my friend, if you dont like arguments in your party, leave Viconia in the graveyard. I like Henry's Cavalier suggestion, because if your running a "good" party, you're really going to want Keldorn (and Carsomyr) at your side. A good ranger is also handy, I'm a BIG fan of Mazzy, but Valygar (with Celestial Fury) is also a favourite. Whichever way you go on the magic side of things ( bearing in mind you want to run a good party) Stick with Aerie. I have always loved the fact that she joins your party meak and abused, but with enough XP and the right equipment she can be devastating later in the game. Happy Hunting ;)

Here are a couple of suggestions for good aligned five member parties using an inquisitor:

Melee Intensive:
PC - Inquisitor
Mazzy
Anomen
Valygar
Jan (he is not good aligned - but I look at him as more good than evil)
Minsc

Magic Intensive:
PC - Inquisitor
Aerie
Nalia
Anomen
Jan
(take Imoen when she becomes available again)

If you want to use Haer'Dalis just take Nalia or Mazzy out of the mix and use him instead. As you probably know, any combination of characters can work well so I would boil it down to what kind of game you want to play: "Melee intensive buff and bash" or "Strategic magic mass destruction".

well if you like Keldorn and being an Inquisitor, what the problem of having him in your team and being an Inquisitor too.

Just use different weapons

Agreed, well said. Characters you like, some spellcasters, some fightertypes, and one will undoubtedly be part thief.

Fenrir14, you dig Inquisitors, Wizard/Thieves, Jaheira, Imoen, Haer'Dalis, and general party friendliness, eh? Try:
- PC Inquisitor
- Jaheira
- Haer'Dalis
- Aerie
- Jan Jansen (or a Fighter-type NPC, depending how much you really love Wizard/Thieves)
- Yoshimo/Imoen

Or try:
- PC Wizard/Thief
- Keldorn
- Haer'Dalis
- Aerie
- Jaheira
- Yoshimo/Imoen

I too think Haer'Dalis is interesting, because he has the widest range of varying opinions in forums like this as to how powerful (or not) he is.

I included Aerie because of Haer'Dalis, because they have alot to say when in the same party together, especially if you romance Aerie. And I also included Aerie because of Jaheira, because a Druid compliments a Cleric well.

I too think Imoen is a good choice, because she relates to the main story more than any other NPC, if that matters to you. Let's face it: ALL the NPCs are powerhouses, with weaknesses easily overcome by wearing appropriate magic items. Might as well choose based on story interaction & banter.

But it would seem the dual-classed Imoen is not the kind of Wizard/Thief you are into. Having yourself as the Wizard/Thief (or Jan) may, at a glance, make both above parties seem a little weak on the warrior front, especially in ToB. But if you use your surplus of spells appropriately, then characters like Jaheira & Haer'Dalis can help make up for any lack of tanks.
Why is it that whenever I finally get around to playing a new game for the first time,
I feel like playing Baldur's Gate for the second time...

Inquisitor PC
Jaheira
Minsc
Imoen (use Yoshimo until you get her back)
Aerie (good romance for a Paladin)

I'd go with a 5 person crew (and have done this party before, except I played as a Cavalier... and an Inquisitor is better). It's nice to "help people out" and add the other NPCs for their personal quests along the way.

If you'd rather have a full party, I'd add Mazzy for some extra archery skills, and she makes a great tank too (just give her points in Halberds!).

Another alternative is to play a Cavaleir and add Keldorn to your crew. If you have ToB installed, make sure to get ** in Bastard Swords! ;)
