If you've only just started the Thieves Guild Quest line then you cannot trade with him. If you do manage to find him( Before finishing the quest line, I've found him in the Imperial City Market District) it will say you can barter with him but he'll say that he doesn't know what you're talking about.

you sound like youre experiencing a bug which affects fathis ules.
there seem to be quite a few! (read this for information)
i recommend downloading the "fathis fix" mod from here, which should sort you out on your merry way.

Head of the Thieve's Guild and still stealing stuff? Why? Do you have to? You are the boss! And you surely don't need the money any more! YOu must have found and sold tons of stuff from dungeon crawling by now, and be simply dripping money!tristan0606 wrote:Im needing help... im the head of the Theives guild now.. and when i try to sell my items, they are to expensive for Ongar(only 600), and im looking for the best fense(i forget his name), he lives in the elvin gardens, but whenever i go there he isnt there, and they tell me he is in the guild hall(thieves guild hall im guessing), but i can never find him. Join another Guild, and get to the head of that one as well.

Get your mecantile skill up high enough, and you'll be able to "buy" into a business, which is nothing more than enabling the merchant to have more money on stock for purchasing. Of course, that takes a lot of cash and skill increases. There are probably mods out there that provide a shortcut.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

I think the max cash you can get from regular merchants is 1200 gold per item. Which is a darn sight better than Ongar's 600.tristan0606 wrote:When i get items(stolen or not), i have no where to sell them, where am i supposed to go for items that have a high stolen price? Since Ongar seems to be the only person i can sell to and he only allows i think $600. And yes i am still stealing.
The top fence is Fathes Ules, who lives in the Elven Gardens district of Imperial city. His top payout is 1500. However, his Mercantile skill is Master level, so he isn't a pushover when it comes to valuing items.
Myself, when I finally decided I would join Thieves Guild, I stole and fenced only the minimum requirement for each quest option. I am about to do the Final Heist. I have no intention of stealing anything else - I have tons of cash from dungeon crawling, so no need, and I hated it anyway. I only stole from 2 houses, both belonging to dead people. The rest I pickpocketed from City Guards; mostly Fine Steel Bows, at a value of 60 gold, fenced at 35 gold each initially, but the price improved as the Fence got to consider me his 'best customer'.
I have never bought into a business, so I know nothing about that.

Despite all the NPCs who tell me Fathis Ules lives in the Elven Gardens district of Imp City and can sometimes be found at the guild hall (the door to which is on the waterfront, in the little garden where you first met Armand), I actually find him in the Oak and Crossier inn in Chorrol most of the time (although if you've done the quest "Sins of the Father" he won't talk to you any more).
The next-best fence is Orrin, in the Castle Anvil smithy. I think he pays up to 1200 gold for stolen items.

Can the answer to this question be "No"?
like i mentioned, fathis has quite a few bugs in his behaviour. hes not supposed to stay in chorrol after you do particular quests there.Belthan wrote:Despite all the NPCs who tell me Fathis Ules lives in the Elven Gardens district of Imp City and can sometimes be found at the guild hall (the door to which is on the waterfront, in the little garden where you first met Armand), I actually find him in the Oak and Crossier inn in Chorrol most of the time (although if you've done the quest "Sins of the Father" he won't talk to you any more).

the following info (including blacked out quest info) is from the wiki page on him:
if youre playing on a pc, i highly recommend downloading and installing the bug fix mod in order to fix his behaviour and have fathis work like he should.Fathis Ules is a Dunmer Thieves' Guild fence (Mercantile=100/Master, gold=1500) in Imperial City. He has a house in the Elven Gardens district.
Unfortunately, it's sometimes difficult to actually find Fathis. Rather than sleep in his own bed, he normally stays down the street with an orc, Dul gro-Shug. He may take a walk to the Arboretum in the midafternoon.
If you have completed Legacy Lost, Fathis travels to Chorrol, and you can find him at The Oak and Crosier. Apparently there's a bug (both PC and Xbox version) that once you complete Sins of the Father, Fathis may be stuck in Chorrol, and may refuse to deal with you.
There are also additional bugs with Fathis' behavior. The 1.1.511 patch doesn't seem to fix any of these. PC users can get one of a few mods to help Fathis behave normally, for example "Fathis Fix."

alright thanx, i found him. But... after i asked about finding a fence to him, he says something about how he is the best and wants to bargain with me.. but i still cant buy or sell from him, any suggestions. Also, im getting alot of deadric cuirass', which are worth $4800, does anyone know anywhere to sell this so i can get at least half of that?? The best deal i can get it only 1200, which is a total loss of money for me... any suggestions?
Some fences will only buy & sell during certain hours of the day (Orrin in Anvil is great - he'll deal if he's in the middle of eating dinner, or even if I get him out of bed in the middle of the night. Dar Jee in Leyawin is the worst; it's like he only works a couple hours a day or something). Not sure about Fathis, but you might try waiting until a different time of day.
As far as the amount of money, you'll never get more than 1500 gold for a stolen item (and that's only if you can get Fathis to work, otherwise you'll have to use Orrin who only has 1200 gold). As fable pointed out, you can get a little more for "legal" items if your mercantile skill is high enough to invest in a business that already has a lot of gold (e.g. Rohsan at Best Defense in Imp City has 1200 to start, so if you invest in her shop she'll have 1700), but you'll still never get close to what some of the more powerful enchanted items are actually worth.

Yeah, it's frustrating to have very valuable stuff to sell and only get 1200 for it - and then to see it in the merchant's goods at it's real value! GRR!!!
But that's the way it is. Bite the bullet and accept it!
After all, if you do much dungeon crawling you'll soon have so much money you won't know what to spend it on anyway, regardless of the pittance you get for your stuff.
Sometimes, if I have too much to carry even when using Feather spells, potions and items (which can add up to a lot of weight reduction), I just dump the heaviest of the expensive items (like Daedric Warhammers) because it's not worth the hassle of stashing them and going back later.
