BG2 is upside-down?

Post by LordTerror »

On one of my computers, BG2 shows up upside-down. Has anyone had this problem before?

Notes:
-The computer that has problems is a Gateway M275.
-When I take a screenshot, it appears rightside-up.
-This is the only computer that I have that has problems with BG2 and this computer doesn't have problems with any other games.

In the BGConfig program what resolution and graphics settings did you set?

3d Acceleration
Automated Speed Adjustment is checked
"Maximum PC" (600 MGz)
Unlocked 1024x768 mode
32 bit 2D color depth
Full Screen

I just tried running the config program to change the settings, but no matter what I try (even Windowed mode!), the program locks up and I have to alt-f4 to get out of it.

Any ideas?

What version of DirectX do you have installed?

Also try setting to minimum PC and saving that setting. If that takes then go back in and remove all of the 3D acceleration and setting to 640x480.

I tried those settings, but the BG Config program still crashes when it tests the graphics. For some reason, the BG Config program seems to save the new resolution size BEFORE crashing, though. (Everything else is unsaved and therefore reverts when I re-load the config program).

I find it strange that the Config program crashes but BG actually works. The game works suprisingly well dispite being upside-down, though.

Go into your BG2 folder and save a copy of your Baldur.ini file as Baldur.sav.

Then edit your Baldur.ini file and set the following parameters to the specified value. Then run BG2 and see if that doesn't help.

General
Frame Rate = 30
Path Search Nodes = 400000
Enhanced Pathfinding = On

Graphics
Game Resolution = 800 x 600
Translucent Shadows = On
No Large Static Animations = Off
Disable All Static Animations = Off
3D Animations = Off
Enable Brightening = On
Force 50% Transparency = Off
Disable Casting Glows = Off
Disable VEF Vid Cells = Off
Mid Level Brighten = On
High Level Brighten = On
Tiles Precache = 100%
Disable Statics During Combat = Off
Faster Blur = Off
Use 3D Acceleration = Off

Also ensure that you have the latest version of drivers for your graphics card.
