I hate fighting thieves.

Post by Onkel Bob »

Large groups of them. All with potions of speed and of invisibility. Somehow they manage to backstab me even with two persons casting truesight. Some of them even use wands of paralyzation somehow. Is it me or is the Shadow Thieves' guildhall much better protected than Bodhi's lair? My dificulties with this fight may be due to an inadvertently installed mod. All I know is that I'd take vampires any day.

Suggestions would be appreciated.

If it makes you feel better

my lvl 11 thief with 120% base hide in shadows and cloak of non-detection still triggers dialogue from people that couldn't possibly see him, but perhaps the thieves all have those cloaks which miraculously disappear - or an improved invisible mage with non-detect casting the same on them. it could happen...

the game autokills the PC if you try to kill the guy upstairs in the TG - no matter how you do it and from where - you get an alleged backstab of more than whatever HPs you have.

if the character is a thief - isn't there a hood that prevents backstab or is that ToB?

for those kind of multiple situations - have you tried an immune from fire person triggering fireballs on themselves? the ring plus a potion or two and use potions of explosions - usually you'd blow yourself up, but you can fry the enemies invisible or not. obviously a mage can do it best, but a fighter has higher HP to withstand the couple of attacks the enemy might get in.

You can kill Aran Linvail just fine if only you side with Bodhi. In fact it's one of the missions she gives you. I haven't even gotten inside the freakin guild either. I'm now considering picking up Edwin and Keldorn to help me. Keldorn for his dispels and truesight. And Edwin to be able to toss a lot more fireballs at them.

I'd have to kick out Minsc and Jaheira but they're not in my long term plans for this party anyway. However right now I have both Jaheira and Viconia and I want to see them catfight which hasn't happened yet. And if I kick Jaheira it won't happen...

If Keldorn and Edwin don't make this fight any easier I'll come back much later. Only thing is that I want to use Imoen in this party. So I'm trying to hurry things along and get to Brynlaww quickly so she won't be too far behind.

And I haven't installed the tactics mod. I'm not that good at this game. I like the battles fine the way they are. I have installed a mod that made rogues just a bit stronger and I'm suspecting it is to blame for my dificulties...

Hood, Armor and Boots.. all in ToB ;[ Where they're pretty useless, not many backstabbers around and so on.

Backstab hurts a lot, but stoneskin negates the damage whether it's 2 or 200... lots of defensive spells and those rogues are toasted =)

Damn I just kicked their asses. I hit them a lot harder and I formed a line so they couldn't get behind me. More fireballs and more skins. Minsc got killed which was unfortunate. He was actually somewhat of a weak link in my defenses. I've bought Viconia some nice gear since she's in my long term plans for this party and she and Minsc were the only ones without skins. However with her shield and armor and the defender of easthaven she was a lot better protected than he was. Area of effect spells are of course a much better way to deal damage when you're fighting lots of foes than melee is. And that was more or less what one the day here. That and protection.

I didn't need to change my line-up either.

Of course I've only just breached their perimeter defenses...

Barbarian's backstab-ignored ability is sounding quite nifty now, eh? ;)
