Problem with installation

Post by Jagzor »

Whenever I try to install BG2 the cd popup window always has a play button and never an install one, even though the program files aren't on my computer anymore. And the setup file on cd1 always tries to uninstall the game unsuccessfully. Is there some kind of fix for this, or could I somehow install the game manually by copying and pasting from the cd's or something?

Thanks,
Jagzor.

You didn't tell us--did you previously have BG2 on your computer? Because if so, it sounds like some components of it weren't correctly uninstalled.

If it was installed on the computer before then I've had a similar problem. You need to go into the folder called 'InstallShield Installation Information' and find the folders that contain information about the previous installation of BG2. Then you need to erase that folder. If you have ToB as well I think you need to erase two seperate folders. In my case they look like this:

E:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{7AF32AB1-CB97-11D4-9607-0050BA84F5F7}

E:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{B8C3B479-1716-11D5-968A-0050BA84F5F7}

There's a notepad file called Setup in most of the libraries that will tell you what that folder is about.

However if I were you I'd wait with doing any of this until someone more knowledgable of computers than me comes along with an opinion.
