Melee character-need help pls

Post by tofucsek »

Hi guys! I tried a melee character in the game, and I have a few questions.
1., If I read correctly, the apprentice in melee is raise the speed with melee weapon with 5. I started the game with a rapier-15 basic speed- and when I trained myself to apprentice, it raised to 20, which is correct. But if I change this sword to any weapon, that's speed is only the normal, and not raised with 5. Is it a bug, or this is only works on the first weapon, when I get the apprentice status?
2., I played before with shooting character many times, and there was no problem with the mechanized/ore-lava enemies. I know, theese bastards do a nice damage to my weapons. I have a few idea :-p ick up the repair skill to help on my weapons.
- learn harm or maybe disintegrate spells and use only on theese guys.
Can you help me, what would be the best to kill them? I played many times with this game, but I never finished it, so I don't know, what kind of monsters will come in the second half of the game.
Thx for your help, and have a good play

with a good fighter you will have no rpoblem in ending the game ... when i played a melee fighter i got to 20 str 20 speed + master melle and dodge and the game gets easy from there and you can put the rest ofthe skill points in whatever you want ... i ussualy go for thieving skills ...

now to answer some questions :

1 hmmm i never read the manual and i never knew that when you reach aprentice level you gain 5 speed with melee weapons ... i always though speed of atack was dependent on speed of character + speed of weapon ... so i can help you here
2 well just grab some swords that you don't want to keep when fighting these creatures ... you'll probably not want to destroy your ( let's say ) arcane sword on these suckers so use a katana or feather-weight axe or something on them ... something with good speed to balance out the damage you might not be doing ... it is always good to keep some spare weapons around ... and i'm sure magic doesn't go well with the creatures your having problems with , they are resistant

When I use a melee character I also put some points in throwing, those weapons don't get damaged from hitting ore/lava golems. If you're a technical character you could also put some points in explosives, those go well with a nice throwing skill. But it's also a good idea to keep some weapons on hand that can get destroyed. For this purpose I always keep the swords you get from the random encounters with orcs or molochean hand.

I've always carried a pathetic weapon in backup, but usually I'll just use the blasting power of my Pyrotechnic axe to finish off my enemies. It bites to have to repair my weapons (repair is a useful skill) but carrying two Pyro Axes isn't that heavy.

I've heard that using blunt weapons like hammers and mauls are good for golems but I can't remember it working for myself. I've also heard that wearing special Dwarven Gloves (found in one of the mines) prevents damage to weapons.

There's a couple or so magic weapons that don't take damage. Loghaire's axe "Harrow" is one. I forget the others.

But I almost always use the Harm spell with a high magical aptitude.

for golems and the such i always carry around an inferno hammer (the gypsies in ashbury always seem to have them). they do some nice fire damage, and if memory serves, they have a considerable amount of wear they can take. usually they wreck golems for me. im almost positive the apprentice adds 5 speed to any weapon. it actually adds onto the speed that you see when you select any weapon, so if it was a 10 before, you'll see it as a 15. im pretty sure :D

I think that arcane weapons can't be damaged. If I'm wrong, please correct me.

I usually use disintegrate those bastards. :mischief:

You can always take four or five ranks in Force, which gives you a very nice ranged attack. Four ranks gives Bolt of Lightning and five gives Disintegrate. Just be sure to carry some Fatigue restoring potions or some such. Going Force is a good idea anyway, since it nets you Shield of Protection, one of the best spells in the game, IMHO.

As for golems, the pyrotechnic axe does the job VERY nicely. It's probably one of best melee weapons in the game, particularly because it can be acquired quite early in the game. Get a feather-weight axe (buy it or have Magnus make one), get a schematic, buy several explosives and smithy manuals (it requires smithy 20 and explosives 8) and voilá! It deals 3-12 normal and 30-50 fire damage, pure ownage. :D
What do you want?

IIRC, it's in the Chest under the Rich Guy's house in the Tarant Sewers, guarded by several Archnids. http://www.gamebanshee.com/arcanum/walk ... rsopen.php .Number 3
