Where's my magika gone?

Post by The Yank »

My level was around the 200 mark but for some reason it dropped to 30. Several of my attributes are suddenly listed in red as well. When I leveled up my magika remained on 30.

I checked through my inventory for the items selected but could not see anything that said it was giving me a minus attribute.

I took a potion of cure desease and a potion of cure poison then slept but still no change.

This is probably something really simple and stupid but I don't know what is causing this or what to do about it.

Can anybody give any suggestions please?

The tab on the right of the magic page in your journal shows magical effects and diseases. But if you already took a cure disease potion and it didn't help, it's not a disease. Your Intelligence was probably damaged by a magic effect like being drained by a will-o-wisp or a wraith, and those don't always show up in the magic effects page (although the attribute will be displayed in red, like you said). I only mention it because if you check your journal first, it might prevent you wasting a cure disease potion the next time.

In any case, if you activate the altar in any temple or chapel, your attributes should be restored.

Yeah, sounds like a curse (or even a few curses) you've picked up, probably during battle. Some creatures can do that in an attack.

A strong alchemy skill lets you also make potions to get rid of curses. And there are spells that will combat specific curses, too.

Does that mean a "Restore Whatever" potion or spell works on permanent curses too, not just temporarily drained attributes? That would be sweet for characters whose high infamy prevents them from getting healed at temples. Heh heh, no more Mr. Nice Guy...

Potions should work on any drained attributes, provided the cause of the problem isn't a cursed item you're still carrying around.

Those Way Shrines to the individual gods, scattered around the countryside do the same as well. And there is a little altar in Weynon Priory church as well.

Attribute Damage never shows on the Magic Effects page, but only as a red number on your Attributes list.

A lot of spells will DRAIN attributes, but they always go back to normal when the spell wears off.

However, when you get a flashed note to say an attribute had been DAMAGED, it doesn't go back on it's own; you have to fix it with spells, potions, or altars. Make a habit of always carrying at least one potion of Restore for each attribute.
