Fire Giants

Post by peter_forestell »

I am having a problem with the fire giants when you first enter Yaga-Shura's temple. There are like 7 of them. As soon as I enter, I die. How do I beat them? I am a mage PC, without any level 9 spells.

Are you soloing or what? Who do you have in your party / what level are they / did you do Watcher's Keep / what is your average AC/HP...questions questions questions...

Basically walking into this part of the game you just have to get tough on those big stupid red freaks! They do a lot of damage and there are a lot of them, so you just have to suck it up! If your mage is getting smacked, do stoneskin / mirror image / blur / improved invisibility before you walk in.

If you can't just tough them out, maybe retreat up the stairs so that you can get some room, get some summons going and use missile weapons? I don't know......

I just did this with the party:
Sarevok
Mazzy
Me (thief)
Anomen
Jan
Imoen

I had Jan cast great malison while Anomen cast gate to distract a few giants. Imoen had memerized 3 finger of deaths. They work well on normal giants. I had Jan cast damage spells. My thief was drinking invisability potions and backstabing the 2 or 3 elites. Anomen, Sarevok, and Mazzy were meleeing the closest giant. After the finger of deaths, Imoen cast some horrid Wiltings. keep the melee presure up and use alot of spells.

Well, although it may seem like forever to get rid of all these Fire Giants (trust me, I thought it was never ending! haha.. I think I eventually killed about.. er.. a dozen of them, literally, plus with about another dozen or so of the military men).

SPOILER!!

.
Basically, here's a little hint: keep to the far right of the screen (ie. before the bridge and near the woods). Get rid of all the giants/men there, and progress SLOWLY leftwards. There wil always be new giants and men re-appearing. So don't progress leftwards too quickly or else your team would be surrounded both left and right.

So just focus on the right. If there doesnt seem to be any new monsters spawning, move slowly to the left. Although this may seem like a slow process (and it might be, took me about 10-15 minutes to finish the whole thing), but it's guaranteed to work, especially when.

You don't really need any level 9 mage spells here. I don't think I used any. Just make sure you've got a couple of summoning (get some easy ones, like Spider Spawn which is quick and many) and Animate Dead (Cleric).

In my party where there are 3 fighters (Sarevok, Korgan, my Ranger/Cleric) I managed to survive! :) Abi's Wilting is good.. as well as a couple of Fireballs when it's getting a little packed. But for me, don't bother too much with the Malison or any other non-direct-damage spells.

IIRC, the soldars and giants spawn an infinite number of times in the seige camp.

The Giants and soldiers spawns are not infinite. I Stay there killing them for a while(to gain XP), after a few minutes they stop to come. Mordaiken Sword and Planetar helps me lot in that fight
[Sorry about my English]

Invisibility RULES!!!

Those fire giants don't have any mages/clerics when you enter to cast true sight so just go invisible. Choose your battleground then kill them off.

I usually choose the room just to the left of the entrance. Position a protected from fire, high hitpoints and low AC character blocking the door there so you only deal with ONE giant at a time. The rest use missile weapons. Nice that the giants DON'T use missile weapons.

Yes, what jeremiah said. Just cast Invisibility 10' Radius before entering and go to the room on the left. I think there is one giant in that room (should be easy to finish one), and when the other giants come for you, block the entrance to the room so that only one can attack at a time.

There might be a big enough gap between the other giants so that you can actually rest before taking the last few on.

After the initial fight, I had my assassin backstab all the Fire Giants, while Sarevok (with the Wave) and Keldorn (with Carsomyr) handled the rest, with some help from my assassin. The rest of my party took a nap. :D

Edit: Potions/scrolls/spells of Fire Resistance help out here. Stay away from the lava pools!

There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.
