X Box 360 vs PS3 Decision

Sorry if this question is asked somewhere else on the site
As I approach the Christmas holidays my kids tell me they are interested in either an XBox 360 or PS3 console. We don't have any console game currently. My kids play a couple games on the PC now. Does anybody know the following, so I can make an informed decision?

1) Which is better? I know that is subjective, but one of them has to have more power, better games (variety), better accessories, on-line service etc.
2) Pros and cons of each?
3) Obsolete risk (or ability to be upgraded), at what point will the hardware not keep up with the games that are created? Next year? Five years?
4) Anything else I may have forgotten to ask that is pertinent?

1. i think the 360 is way better. thats kinda biased though, mainly because of halo and the fact that i dont like the playstation controllers.
2. i dont know too much about either of them. but xbox has halo
3. for the playstations, they've had lots of troubles in the past, and i think the same will happen on their third go. for the 360, being the first of the next-gen consoles out, might be slightly out-of-date, but that also means it has a LOT of games already under its belt.
4. price. the xbox 360 is 100-200 USD cheaper than the PS3. another thing is the wii. you said they werent interested in the other consoles, but the wii sounds VERY awesome. that and it's from nintendo. nintendos are tanks. a lot of playstations and xboxes were dead after a year or two. the old NES still works in most cases. nintendo knows how to make things last. that and it's cheaper than either of the other systems.

I think the most important question is, what games are your kids looking forward to playing? Ask them first so that you get the general idea of what console to buy. Basing this post on the name of the thread I say:

PS3 is just too expensive. 360's $100 less, and the graphical differences aren't EXTREMELY drastic. I'd go with the 360.

Aside from those 2, the unexpectedly fundamental Wii will probably take the prize.

All jokes aside, I really think the competition will be between Nintendo Wii and Microsoft Xbox 360. I myself choose the 360 as my Console of Choice.

lol thats a hilarious ad. they should put it on tv. unless it has some copyright stuff with apple. in which case they shouldn't put it on tv... but it is so true.
