Gray Fox Freed!!! **Possible Spoilers**

Post by RetributorJr »

Hey, I was wondering, has anyone tried going to a doyen with your gray fox's cowl on and paying off your fines at half price? Would the guards then just leave you alone, allowing you to keep the feather 200 lbs on?

No, you can't... BUT you can have the benefit of the cowl feather when you are loaded down. Especially if you have the house on the Waterfront. Don't fast-travel to the Waterfront; instead, fast-travel to the cave close to the waterfront, on the opposite coast to the house, but a bit further away from the bridge. It's called Dzonot Cave and is a bandit hideout. From Dzonot, swim up behind your house, check there is no-one around and nip smartly into your house. Unload your goodies, remove your cowl, and then cast carrying spells, drink feather potions, and gather up as many goodies as you can carry and take 'em to the Market District.
Not as good as having the cowl on at all times, of course, but better'n getting arrested!

Actually, it does work, sort of. Bounty, fame and infamy while wearing the cowl accumulate separately from those accumulated without it. I paid off my bounty with the cowl on, and to my surprise, I can now walk around in broad daylight wearing the cowl and nobody tries to arrest me. However, if you actually talk to anybody in law enforcement (town guards, imperial legion, etc.) they will still arrest you (and of course, some quests require you to talk to lawmen). Plus, if you take the cowl off and put it back on, your bounty goes back up to 500, and you have to start over.

Even cooler, I had a character who did the TG questline first, did the bounty trick, and then did the FG & MQ while wearing it. I eventually got his fame higher than his infamy with the cowl on, so now he can even get healed at temples while wearing it.
Can the answer to this question be "No"?

hehe

I use the full chamelon armour with the cowl so that clears up my problem with the gaurds coarse evrtime i talk to the gaurds the try but i resist and laupgh as the entire watch comes over to find me when im right infront of them, also i heard that if you wear the cowl while completing the save kavatch quest you can walk in the daylight with no problems. I also find it funny when u get jumped by a bandit and if ur wearin the cowl they talk to u like regular npcs and dont try to kill ya
