I have just arrived in the Underdark with a second character. I enjoyed chapters one and two so much that I decided to try them out with a different PC.
My question is this: The first time I was forced into confronting the Valsharess I had completed all of the quests except Maker's Island. If I set up portals to all of the quest areas using the Reaper Stone will that allow me to avoid having the forced encounter with the gate guard and initiating the final battle for this chapter?
HoTU: Chapter Two, possible to complete all quests? (possible spoilers)

I managed to complete all the quests before the final conflict. I tried doing the makers island and the strange village first, and used the reaper to transport myself from one place to another. I found that I only needed one binding in the drow village (placed outside the merchant) or if you're running short on rogue stones, there is a door in the reapers that will take you directly to the seer. If you don't mind walking a bit you could also place a binding in the West of Lith My’athar, so you can get to the other places without going past the gate keeper all the time. I also, and I don't know whether this will make a difference, didn't go to her everytime I completed a quest, but left it until I had at least two to tell her.
Good luck!

I usually outrun the guard when he comes around.
