Incredible discovery, Ultimate tactic vs Irenicus

Post by Jedi_Sauraus »

I just have to post an amazing discovery. this post will be a blessing to anybody having trouble with Irenicus

So, i'm at the tree of life, my team gets pwned yet again with out getting Irenicus to barely injured, due to all his protections. there has to be a better way I found it :) I'm so happy now that Irenicus will never be a problem for me again. ok so now to the tactic.

the pre-requisite is being able to cast 1 level 9 spell not all to hard
go shape-change............ no not cheesy mind-flayer............ Iron Golem.

I had Nalia shapechange into that beast, and she tanked all of Irenicus' worst spells and suffered no dmg. In the end the poor guy was standing there casting some kind of low level ice spell. once he wastes all his spells on the golem well my paladin ran up to him and 1 greater whrildwind sent him to hell. 1 round ko  I was really shocked and amazed, nalia with 53 hp tanked Irenicus

hope this helps anybody who had trouble with him, I know I did

Ha! I never heard of this tactic before. Poor Irenicus. Just imagine the look on his face when he realised he couldn't take out that spoiled little brat. It's like being beaten at arm-wrestling by Jan Jansen.
Also, fighting an Iron Golem that keeps squeaking "For the needy!!" must be a confusing experience as well.

The smartest thing I ever came up with in that fight was summoning a few Hakeshar and Nishruu and keeping a healthy distance.

Oh but that's not very fun is it? :) Nothing beats a good spell duel with Irenicus. When I defeted him I had a soloing fighter/mage and you know there's nothing so satisfying as having a bunch of spell triggers and the like, prepered with just the right magics and then POFF POFF POFF! All Irenicus' protectons down. :mischief:

But I can't help but feel sorry for the baddie Irenicus when he sees that his mega-magics have no effect on that Iron Golem haha.

Now that you mention it, I also have an interesting tactic vs. Firkraag. It may be already known but I'll say it anyway: just get a want of cloudkill, cast it a few times on Firkraag, then run away from his sight, but make sure he stays in the reach of Cloudkill. Then just wait-he'll take damage 1 by 1 and eventually drop dead  .

I absolutely agree. It's been such a long time since I used that tactic but I remember it was in my first game and I was very frustrated with that particular fight  .

Just make sure the first enemy Jon sees is a Haekeshar, and the fight is already over.

My party didnt have many problems with Irenicus or dragons. Keldorn with Carsomyr helps a lot in the Tree of Life battle vs Irenicus, especially because many of the spells he casts simply dont hurt him.

My main character, a fighter, simply had cloak of mirroring and the belt of inertial barrier and didnt suffer much as well. Just cast some top level breach spells like pierce magic or that Red Ruby's Reversal or the Whipthingwhatyacallit to get some protections off. 2 times 2 fighters with boots of speed, 1 with carsomyr and 1 dual wielding crom feyr and that awesome katana +3 makes the fight easy.

Same goes for the final battle. Him being a slayer with protections is annoying, but my main character simply kept him busy while 1 of my mages removed a few of his protections. The rest of my pary simply tanked the demons, yes, even Aerie tanked one of them to death. And of course a speeded Keldorn with a holy avenger makes short work of enemy demons.

And nothing a few good bolts of glory wont fix. Not to mention Holy Smite.

As for dragons, just cast lower resistance twice on him and then remove his spell protections that he casts and he's dead quite fast.

Well it was some time ago really, but i will try to put the stuff I remember together.

Ok, to my experience Irenicus casts a bunch of prot. spells via Contingencys and Tatoos of Power when the battle starts. If I recall correct he instantly gets the following spells:
stoneskin
absolute immunity
spell turning
spell shield

And then after just a little while, a round or two, he triggers another spell sequencer and gets:
fire shield red
fire shield blue
mislead

Ok. So when the battle began and the Irenicus' first wave of spells were fired, I triggered a Spell Sequencer loaded with: secret word (for bringing his spell shield down), and two remove magics (just in case of a lucky streak, otherwise didn't have a purpose).
Now his second spell wave came and he got invisible. So I cast Time Stop. When he was frozen I cast True Sight, Ruby Ray of Reversal and dispelled his Spell Trap, and then Khelben's Warding Whip to dispel Spell Turning and possible prot. to come. Then I waited until the Time Stop ended and my spells were effecting him. With his spell prot. down I could cast breach to get rid of the Fire Shields and the Stoneskin. My last spell was a Spell Trigger loaded with a remove magic (just in case), Improved Haste and Tenser's Transformation (think that the spell doubled the hp from my fighter class too cause I got close to 300hp!) and just started hackin' and slashing. He had some minor defenivs left like a stoneskin when I hit him, but they all got eater up by my 8 attacks/round.

The cheesiest will always be laying down a bunch of traps beforehand.

That being said, I had no problems getting a few Haekeshars before that fight. Both of my mages had it memorized, so it must be somewhere!

For people who are looking for help on killing irenicus when you are in the abyss and he is slayer form, you can actually just cast the level 2 cleric spell hold person and it actually works. I found this out by accident when i used the druid spell summon nymph and she cast it on him. It may take a couple of tries allowing for saving throws but once he is disabled your fighters can move in and chop him up before the spell expires.
