"All the world's a stage and everybody's tripping over the railing into the Orchestra Pit." No, really. No idea, for a fact, but I wonder. Sometime between getting the Museum Quest and finishing the Mansion, did you perchance patch your game to a new version? I've heard that causes all manner of weird bugs.

I have nothing interesting or useful to add, but the image of that makes me laugh and laugh.

"Good, you're here! I need you to get that dirty old box for me."
"What, the one over there?"
"What?.. No, I don't think so. I mean another box."
"Well okay, where is it?"
"In a musem, some professors are looking over it."
"Funny, I think I already went to a musem and stole a box for you."
"You did?"
"Yeah, that one over there."
"Well it can't BE that box I want, cos I want ANOTHER box, don't I?"
"... Does the Box have a name??"
"The, ah, Ankaran sarcophagus."
"I think THAT thing might BE the Ankaran sarcophagus."
"Can't be, I'd know."
"It says "Ankaran sarcophagus" on the side, and "Made in Messipitamia" right next to it! I think this is your box!"
"No no no, look, just go to the musem and look around for another box, you'll spot it!"
"When I'm prince, I'm going to make the Sherif lick your skin off!"
"Whats that??"
"I said 'I'm gonna get that box, get my check list and tick that thing off', sir."

i tried to go back in and tell him that I'd had the box Fed-Exed and that it should have been delivered by now but Chunk seems to think that he can't let me past. I have intimidate 7 or so, seduction 6 and the James Whale just will not let me back upstairs. I've told him that I dropped an ear-ring or even made outrageous promises that I (as a RL bloke) would have found inmpossible to resist coming from my tremere female PC. and of course the Giovanni mansion is no longer on the cab route, so can't simply 'go through the motions' and gain all that extra XP by doing the mission again. nor can I convince Isaac to let me go back to Kings Road.

I am utterly stuck.

what should I reinstall to get that save to work?

I'd prolly start with "The game".

Seriously, keep the save file, reinstall the game, try again. If it works, add the patches and try again, if that works, GREAT! If not, you know where the problem is... Save File, or Patches. You might have to start again. :(

I'll go with the naked install and see if that works.

I'd got lots of unspent XP and was working up to a really neat character.

That would mean that the sherriff actually is a gorilla.

That would fit with Vampire: the Requiem, where the Malkavians are a bloodline within the Ventrue!

Wait... Does this mean that when he laughs madly at the end, he's really just laughing because, to him, the box has dancing hot dogs in it singging the theme to love boat??

I was laughing manically when I played the game over 2 PCs - I used a data key to swap save games between them - the old multi-patched machine managed to get the game back on track and the new (dual core & 512Mb graphics card) one is faster and even smoother for great gameplay.

even with a clean install LaX forgot where he was, yet on the old machine, he remembered. his personality is more split than the Santa Monica baron(s).

I think that is the solution though - swap save-game files back to the old machine when there is a bug. it even got me the points for solving the hit-man impasse, which I 'failed' in the bugged game.

I managed Hollowbrook on the new machine, but guess what? the rather nice sword is missing - so I'm stuck with the bush hook rather than the t-blade. darn annoying as I enjoy proper sword on sword duels in Ming's Minging Palace. the regular katana just doesn't have that special feel to it.

has that happened to anybody else? Chastity didn't drop it, cute manga girl didn't give me it and now it's not there at hollowbrook.

oh well, I suppose as my PC Gwen would say - "I ain't no Hollowbrook girl"

Didn't one of the patches give you the T-blade as a reward from the mission where you kill the Rokea in chinatown?

If not, you can always add it with the console I spose, if you feel like out and out cheating.

The command to manually give yourself the T-blade is:

give item_w_occultblade
".... for I had seen the Human face of the Vampires, and now I beheld the monstrousness of these Men..."

spoiler (v slight)

I've got to the floor where LaXs cronies hang out - I bush-hooked and blood-struck and shot my way up there. the Desert Eagle handgun with its 12 bullet clip is a girl's best friend (when she has Auspex 4) - I have never been so firearm-orientated before: usually I engage in melee, but apart from my steal-kills (sneak 7/8 even with a tremere - depending on dex-effect of armour) - I have blasted my way through. OK so I blood-boiled a few on the way to decorate the place a little, but this time through, I made the most of auspex and firearms. even though the Uzi is a bit unreliable in close combat, I found that purge often helped when closely surrounded.

I still have to clear out the floor I am on and take on the sheriff, but I reckon that with 4 elder vitae in reserve, I should be able to hit him with major damage through Thaumaturgy - blood boil will probably not have it floating in the air, but should at least do major damage. I should have enough ammo left for the Behemoth who I hope to defeat using the flood-light/flamethrower technique I usually use with a bit of Auspex-assisted killing-floor clearance first.
