Getting items from character not currently in your party??

I'm using very much time when swapping a character also swapping gear around .. therefore i usually don't swap characters i use too much .. but at some points you have to do it .. especially when you are forced to have certin characters in your party for a while. This leads to the new character needing gear.. and i was wondering is there any easy way to do this .. or do ya acctually have to put the character in your group, strip him, remove him and then kick him from the group .. this starts to get rly tiersome .. pls is there some way to store items that aint on a playable character .. or some other easier way to get it off the npc

I've not found a way to access a NPCs inventory if not in your party, no.
