1)It's a great option, but it always takes too long for me. Is there any way to accellerate the Jaheira romance?
2)If I "let her down gently" (kill the romance, but keep her in the party), will the Harper subplots still unfold, all the way to her aquiring that great pin at the end?
TIA

No idea about (2). About (1), check the romancing guide, found here: Sorcerer's Place - Baldur's Gate 2 Tips, Tricks & Hints (1/2)
There are a couple of variables which you can toy with, for example to force the next dialogue *now*. I don't know of any mods that make the romance progress faster by themselves.

Leaving the game running and paused whilst you have your tea or whatever will help speed things up, though I don't know to what extent. Can't say I'm an expert on SoA as I haven't finished it once yet. I keep getting sidetracked.
I've decided to try a solo no reloads game from the beginning of BG1. No doubt you will finish yours a long time before I finish mine, since I'm only just starting.

The G3 BG2 Tweak Pack contains a component that allows you to adjust the timers for the romances to speed them up.
