Another playthrough...how does this party sound?

Post by [Generic] »

Hi everyone.

My Baldur's Gate 2 cds are screwing up, so I've turned to IWD2. This will be my third playthrough, and this is the party I plan on using.

Shield Dwarf Fighter 4/Barbarian X
Shield Dwarf Cleric of Tempus
Human Cleric of Lathander
Drow Rogue 1/Conjurer X
Human Sorceror
Aasimar Sorceror

The fighter/barbarian is my tank. The cleric of tempus is a tank that will cast buffs when needed. The cleric of lathander is my heal/buff/offensive spells (the cleric of lathander gets a few good ones). The rogue/conjurer will continue taking some rogue skills but will only get one level in rogue, I'm not planning on using this character for backstabbing, he'll use a crossbow and cast offensive spells. My sorcerors are my arcane spells.

Does anyone have any suggestions for improvement?

Personally? I think with two sorcerers, you could afford to make your rogue/conjurer a 4th level rogue. It would give you evasion and Uncanny Dodge. Making it so if your single tank got bypassed, which IS likely, you would keep your Dex Bonus to AC. As well as making you more likely to survive oncoming spells that bypass your spell resistance. Granted, you will lose a level or two of spells, but with two other arcane casters, you wouldn't need to worry much. You would be better making the sorcerers artillery, and this character an all purpose transmuter and buff people with the character instead. Memorize a bunch of Mage Armors, Shield, Mirror Image, Displacement, Stoneskin, etc and buff the whole party.

A very powerful party, maybe even too powerful. Cleric and mages are the overpowered classes and you take even 4 of them. The game will become so easy once you gained the first 5 levels.

But since it's your 3rd play-through it's hard to create new challenges which enforce the use of other tactics. (going through the game without facing real difficulties can of course still be fun)
Maybe you should try a "no reload" attempt or use a party with paladin, bard and druid as the only spellcasters.

The party you posted is pretty much the same as one listed somewhere (not sure where anymore) as the ultimate power party (UPP). Do a search on ultimate power party in gamebanshee and google (add icewind dale 2 to google search). They detail the strategy of this party. feats spell picks etc.

It supposedly breezes through most of the game and I'm not surprised by that.

Also there is supposedly a better party with some multiclass weird races and strategies like using a decoy character. This is called the JUPP (Jukka's ultimate power party).
