Durlag, Durlag...slight spoilers

Post by Pellinore »

...I have more trouble in the Tower than anywhere else...and its never combat related. I am on level 4 and have 2 rooms that I can't seem to get into. The treasure room (throne room) and the other throne room. I know I need a 'compass runestone' which I cannot find and I cannot seem to access the riddle room to answer anymore riddles. Whats up?

SPOILER

There are several hidden rooms which you need to enter. Try using your thief's find traps near the walls. In one of them there is a Ghoul or something who has a name. Sorry can't remember it. After conversing with it, you get into a fight and one of the goodies is a wardstone. I think that is the one you are looking for at present.

Thanks. Thats what it was alright...I had missed a small section on the map. I must say that the final fight of Durlag's was kind of a let down...it was over in about 3-4 rounds. But man, oh, man did I get a surprise when I got back to U.Beard!!!:speech: I got wasted as soon as I entered the map, took me two tries to win that fight. The second fight wasn't that bad but the NEXT fight in that basement.......    It took me the better part of 4 hours to beat Big 'A'. That was quite possibly the most difficult fight I have ever had in the entire BG series! No reward for it either

There are some tricks to make that fight easier but it is by far one of the most difficult that you will encounter. Especially that first time when you walk in blindly.

By the way, you can get a magical hammer from the dwarf in the inn for completing the quest.
:) Once again time to give someone the boot to make room for Coran. LOL :)

Did You Talk To Him Before Going To Dulags Tower?

If so once the cult steals the dagger from you talk to him again and he will tell you to destroy the cult. Then after the deed is done return the dagger to him and get the +1/+4 magical WarHammer. If Ace doesn't drop the dagger you can still get your reward by just telling him that the Cult is Destroted.

IIRC, if you talked to the dwarf ahead of time and did not ask for a reward (or however the conversation goes along those lines), then at the end, well... you won't get a reward.

I found out about the Hammer afterwards, via walkthroughs. One walkthrough mentions the fact that you need to do the pre-quest conversation 'correctly' with the dwarf to get the reward during the post-quest conversation.

Being the Lawful Good fellow that I am... I would never ask for a reward to do a good deed... blah, blah... I too ended up getting nothin'. Jipped! We may be hanging around Paladins a bit too much.
Why is it that whenever I finally get around to playing a new game for the first time,
I feel like playing Baldur's Gate for the second time...

Well, my party were all evil. I never had a rep over 7. I killed Noober. I killed Lahl. I killed Garrick, Xan, Yeslick, plus many others and I killed Garrick again in BG2 when I found him in front of Radiant Heart. I guessed no reward was because of my crappy rep. No biggie. I got through it and am now assembling a new Legion of Doom in Athkatla but am running short on evil NPCs... :(

Thank you all for your input. To people who have never done Durlags before (I didn't on the last run) do it simply for what happens after you
finish it!!! I had a slight clue from things said in this forum but I was still caught completely offguard...something hard to do after you have already beaten it.
