I just got Neverwinter Nights 2 (and am using it on a brand new computer too) and well, I can't even get it to run. Installing and patching went smooth as silk but for some reason it is saying it can't find a disk in the drive then says "Direct3D not detected" or something of the sort.
I have a friend who has the exact same computer (but with a little bit larger processor) and she can play it.
I saw people having problem with the patching and perhaps that is the issue? I don't know if I should uninstall then reinstall or what.
Gah... game playing issues

Have you tried ot uninstall and reinstall?
Did you try to run it before patching?
Since it mentions DirectDrive, I take it you got it there?
If so, I honestly never tried an online service so I am not sure how it checks you disk, since you don't really have one, right?
In reguards to the Direct3D not detected, do you know what video card or builtin chip you have?
Which video drivers you have installed?
Next can you play any other 3D games, like Half-Life 2 or whatever?

Trust me, most of the names I have been called you can't translate in any language...they're not even real words as much as a succession of violent images.

Yes, I uninstalled and reinstalled it and it still does the exact same thing. As for my video/graphics.. right now it is an integrated intel one. I am getting a new card shipped sometime next week (512MB geforce 7600).
It also didn't let me play Vampire: Bloodlines either so i am guessing that it has to be the video card part of it. However, i play the original NWN just fine. Hmmm...

I would say it is most likely your video card to be honest. The chances of you having an integrated card with your computer that can play the game are very slim. Unless you went through a customization process when you got the computer and selected an expensive one. Or bought from Alienware.
My only thought for you is to go to "Run" on the Start menu and type in "dxdiag". It should run the program "DirectX Diagnostic Tool" and you can tell what you have in your system. I'd suggest copying and pasting your systems properties like Processor Speed, Memory, Video Card info etc.
If you go to the "Display" tab there is a line that says "Direct 3D Acceleration: " and it should say "Enabled" or "Disable" next to it. Directly to the right of that should be a button that says "Test Direct3D". If you see "Disabled" and click "Test Direct3D" and it doesn't work right, chances are your computer doesn't have it.
Then again, I'm just guessing here. I have no clue about all of this techno mumbo-jumbo.

"You can do whatever you want to me."
"Oh, so I can crate you and hide you in the warehouse at the end of Raiders?"
"So funny, kiss me funny boy!" / *Sprays mace* " I know, I know, bad for the ozone"

Well it could be the limitations of the video chip, but it could also be the drivers most likely are not up todate.
Can you tell if it is an ATI or Nividia video chip?
Honestly I can''t recall which Intel uses.
If you can find out what chip it is as Magrus suggest we can maybe point you to the new drivers, which could help until your new card arrives.
I would suggest right clicking on My Computer icon, then clicking on Properties, then Device Manager.
The third tab down shoudl be Video Adapters, click it and tell us the name.

I would check with her again - she most likely has a compatible video card as well...I have a friend who has the exact same computer (but with a little bit larger processor) and she can play it
NWN1 came out in 2002. I used to play it using an Pentium II 450, 128 meg of RAM, and a GeForce MX200 video card - so we are talking apples and oranges...However, i play the original NWN just fine
