How do you attack

I've just bought this game, but I can't figure out how to attack.

I know about the commands, when you right click but It doesn't really do anything...

I'm at the fair where I have to beat up some people in an arena. I beaten up the first 3, but it was mere coincidence, so I didn't see how I managed to beat them up...

Please help...

You can not attack anyone in the tutorial (and in many other areas, like Neverwinter) unless he is hostile. The option to do so is locked and thus not shown if you right click someone.

To start the next fight, you need to talk to the Lathander Priest (Brother Merring iirc) and your rivals (the Mossfeld brothers).

You can left click to attack.

Figured it out! Had to close the "Tips Dialogue", then they became hostile...
