Why is my fighter/thief/mage just gaining 1 HP per level?

Post by Xschtar »

I have a FMT, soloing, currently in the Underdark. My CON is very high and still I have been gaining just 1 HP per level for like forever. I am now at around 4 500 000 XP and my HP is just 126 or something like that. Still, I am supposed to have "hit point per level +5" according to the character tab. Am I missing something here?

same problem(?)

I have the same problem, i am a berserker who should be getting max 15hp every level, but max is only 1, 2, 3 hit points, even 0(zero) one time. I lower the difficulty when leveling up, but that's that.
My guess is that I would be too hard to fight with so many hit points, so maybe that's the way it works (it's still almost impossible for someone to kill me  ). But then again why doesn't the game say so?
Anyone who knows for sure?

Oh, someone else has the same problem! "Mysteriet tätnar", as we say in Sweden. I have the Baldurdash Fixpatch, the Language Patch and the Cloak of Mirroring Horrible Graphics Fix - could the problem be any of these? Probably not. I have never had this problem before, but then again, I have never soloed a FMT.

That is the correct amount for a multi-classed character after level 10.

You no longer receive dice rolls or CON bonuses on level up.
Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocre minds. The latter cannot understand it when a person does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses their intelligence.

Take a look at the experience tables in the back of your manual. The hit points your character gets for the first nine or ten levels are based on "hit dice". For example, a Fighter gets 1-10 hit points (determined by the roll of a 10-sided die) for each level for the first nine levels, plus the Constitution bonus. But starting at 10th level, he only gets 3 more hit points per level, with no Constitution bonus. That's the way that D&D has always worked. (The Baldur's Gate series is a computerized implementation of D&D.)

The hit points of a multi-class character are a little bit harder to calculate. But basically, if you have a Fighter/Mage/Thief, you get one-third of the hit points a single-class Fighter gets PLUS one-third of the hit points a single-class Mage gets PLUS one-third of the hit points a single-class Thief gets. If you're getting 1 hit point for every level past 10th level, you're doing alright.

really annoying though - very high XP character and stuck on low HP. that is why I dual a fighter to a mage - get the HP of a fighter, then train as a mage with slightly better weapon choice (until SoM, which has such a brilliant de-buff that it would be a crime not to use it)
I think doing that still RPs as a mage, but more of the Gandalf variety - a mage that doesn't die in the first minute of battle. I usually dual at 8, even though that isn't optimised for HP, attacks per round or THAC0, but it is enough HP to keep a mage from keeling over (like Aerie does).

when you are in the intermediate/high region the 1 HP seems an insult on levelling up - there is a gap between the HPs being improved and the HL abilities kicking in - during that time, levelling is a 'so what?' kind of experience for fighters.
