Halflings

I'm currently playing a halfling fighter thief that I'm thinking of taking to ToB. I'm showing my age here, going back the odd year or two to when I played Dungeons and Dragons, I have it in my mind that Halflings could only go up to level 8 or 10.

Does anyone know if that is the case with Halflings and other demi humans in BG and BG2?

Nope. The optional AD&D 2nd Edition rules regarding demi-human level limits were not implemented into the BG Saga. Hobbits can gain the same levels as humans or anybody else.
Why is it that whenever I finally get around to playing a new game for the first time,
I feel like playing Baldur's Gate for the second time...
