The Beginning

Hello all, First of all. I have played this game before--and I have gotten as far as the ghost mansion before I lost my laptop due to a mother board problem. Now I have a new laptop and I'm starting over again. Problem being, I forgot how to pick up items, like the bill bottle, etc. Help please.

Normally when you have an item in view you can pick up (it should light up) an Icon appears and then you press the action button (default: "E").
