By casting "find a familiar"lv1 spell.
only the main character can have a familiar and read the spell descripion to find out what type do you get since that change in terms of your aligment.

Only classes that can cast mage spells can get one, because its a level 1 spell that only your pc can cast. The familiar you get depends on your alignment.
