Dark Elf--character modification

Hi, me again. First off, this is not about modified armor.

I read a story last night with a Drow elf in it and thought, why not Dungeon Lords? I like the game, but at this point some changes are refreshing. I typically choose an elf female over a human simply because I like the idea of elves and they are also smarter and faster, with the only real advantage (in my opinion of course, many of you probably disagree) anyway, the only real advantage to the human female is she is stronger and has more vitality. Since I just happen to be a human female in real life too...meh, I like elves for when I play escapist fun games. Humans are too close to reality for me.


Anway...to make a Drow elf character would just entail tweaking around with some of the existing files. But, as I realized a little later, to make a true Drow appearence would involve a substantial time commitment so I decided to make a Dark elf instead.

Drow elves: Typical physical characteristics

Drow are characterized by white or silver hair, obsidian black skin, and red (or rarely gray, violet, or yellow) eyes,

In the Irish language, the Daoi-Sith (or Daoine Sidhe) are "dark elves", while the Du-Sith (or Erdluitle) are "black elves".

I edited files for the Black human female and put them in for the Asian elf female (terms are internal file names by Dreamcatcher). The results were interesting looking....(and she retains all her elven characteristics, the changes are only cosmetic.)

I wanted to post these tonight because I was pretty pleased with them. I will have the files uploaded to my page tomorrow. Unlike armor which is compatible with any version of Dungeon Lords, these files will only work with versions 1.4 and 1.5.


(as an aside, I have been feeling really awful lately because I have lost someone close to me, so I apologize if I have seemed grumpy to some people)

Well, this is my approximation of a Drow elf based on the description I posted above. I edited the default female elf files to achieve the results.

My male Drow has problems...big problems.

He looks like a reverse mime or something...I need to continue work on him.

For the male Drow only silvery white hair will be available and yellowish eyes.



*edit* Male drow will have any hair color available in the game and red eyes.

I have made a playable Drow male elf. Since the game does not allow for the creation of new file names I have used the "Fathien" skin tone male elf files for my modification. As character customization is only available in versions 1.4 and 1.5 of Dungeon Lords, those are the only versions that will support this character modification.

This is only a graphics tweak, the character will retain all the same characteristics as any other elf male in Dungeon Lords. Screenshots and file are available from[url="http://www.freewebs.com/kathycf/dungeonlordsdrowelf.htm"]here.[/url]

This (like the male Drow elf) simply adds another variation to the stock playable characters in Dungeon Lords.


*edit* I forgot to mention that I re-used the Asian skinned elf files to make this character mod, in addition to the Black human female ones. Dungeon Lords does not recognize new files names, so I am always having to substitute names. I wish this game supported modding better...

I really enjoy character mods, I have about ten for Dungeon Siege. I was hoping others might enjoy them as well.

Please note that because I cannot create new file names, this character mod re-uses the Asian elf file names. If you would like another elf substituted for this mod, such as the default or fathien one (for example if you customarily play the asian elf female character and don't want her skins changed) please let me know and I can accomodate you. The mod only contains body armor that the original asian elf uses, changed only to match dark elf's skin color. If you would like modified body armor, the ones I created for the black human female will work very nicely with Dark elf.

She has pointy ears just like any other elf, I re-used the pointy ear texture from the Asian elf and overlayed it. The ears look reasonably good, choose a long hair style and you will never see an extremely small spot under Dark elf's ear. (sometimes it is hard to figure out where something is on a 3d model when working with the texture maps which look quite different.
