Planar Sphere and Firkraag

Post by obloquy »

Ok, I'm pretty new to this RPG thing. I've been playing a lot of BG2 over the past few days, and just kind of playing by ear, so to speak. I'd been working on the Firkraag's dungeon, but couldn't handle the Vampires, the Greater Wolfwares, the invisible Guardian, or the Adamantite Golem. I managed to steal the stuff that the Golems guard, and sneak past the Vampires, but I can't get the stuff from the room with the Wolfwares without dying. The Greater Wolfware keeps regenerating. And my True Seeing spell doesn't seem to work on the invisible Guardian. Other than that, I've been to every corner of the dungeon, and even attempted Firkraag...rather miserable outcome, but we won't go into that yet. So, any tips on these baddies?

I'm also having trouble in the Planar Sphere. I'm afraid I am severely under-matched against the Cowled Wizards. I beat Lavok (is that right?), and the dudes in the rooms around the one where he is, but I'm having trouble against the dragon-looking characters (while trying to find the heart) and against the Cowled Wizards. I have no idea where to begin against these wizards, and unfortunately, I don't think I can even leave until I've beaten them. Can I? I think my party is all below level 10. Am I screwed?

I have managed to use strategies to overcome certain battles that seemed impossible, so I am learning the game ok, but I still feel like I'm not really any kind of expert. Can anyone offer any help?

Level jack, level jack, level jack. Take yourself up to at least lv 11 or so on average for your party before going up against everyone you mentioned and you should be good to go. Plus several spell strategies listed around here or in other posts may help.

But is there a way to get out of the Planar Sphere?

Explaining that quest will take far too long. Check out the walkthrough on this site; it'll take you through point by point.

For greaterwolfwere, you need fire to kill them. If you don't use fire, they'll keep regenerate back to full health in few seconds.

For invisible creature, you need to gather up the mask pieces from genies. That mask allow you to see it.

For firkragg, use magic missle and tons of them. You might get a chance doing that when your level is low.

For cowled wizard guy, try greater malison, silence, breach and summon creatures.

I hope these things help

I've actually beaten the Cowled Wizards, but I lost all but my main, Minsc, and the one elf chick... can't remember her name. I'm going to load before the fight and try to do it with less casualties, although one or two deaths is not out of the question. My strategy for them--and for most dudes I've had trouble with up until this point--is stand back and send in summoned beasts to absorb all of their petrification spells and the like, and also get them to use their sequenced protections. Then I will rest, if possible, to let their summoned creatures unsummon, and then move my mage in close enough to Spell Thrust them. Then I do whatever is most effective. Against the Cowled Wizards I just melee attacked them. Worked fine, but the wilt spell is absolutely wicked. I think that's mostly why I lost people. I had forgotten about it; next time I won't. Some of you might call that cheating, but I think I'm pretty low-leveled to be where I am, so I do what it takes.

As for the pieces of the mask...are there six? I have five of the pieces, but no mask has been formed from it. That was quite a while ago, too, so I've been hauling those mask pieces around for a long time. As well as all the bloody keys from that joint. Now...Vampires. Anyone want to volunteer a good way to deal with these bastards? I always get level drained like crazy. My first time through I avoided that room, but I managed to arouse them and now they're out of the room they start in and there's no sneaking by them.

How about the Adamantite Golem? I couldn't touch him, but I could sure use the experience points. I hate to be the newest newbie, but this is my first RPG experience, so...be a big brother. ;)

For the Adamantite Golem, you need a +3 pr greater weapon to hurt it. Also, most spells do not work against golems (for Iron Golems, Electricity only SLOWS them, and for Stone Golems, a Transmute Rock to Mud spell slows it, and Transmute Mud to Rock actually HEALS it of all damage). As for Adamantite Golems, I don't know what spells affect them. What i did was leave it, and I came back later and killed it when my guy's had better weapons (Blade of Roses, Lilacor, Celectial Fury, Flail of Ages, Staff of Ryath??, Axe of Hrothgar) and kicked it's ass (mind you, the use of the HEAL spell does help alot)

There are six in total.

Search through the ENTIRE dungeon BETWEEN the room that contains the Invisible Guardian, and the door that you initially opened with the key the woman gave you. It seems you have missed a room somewhere. Although I think it is redundant information, be wary of trapped doors in that area.

One technique I stumbled across to defeat adamantite golems works pretty well, IMHO. If you notice, they can't go through most normal-sized doors or bridges. So, send one person in your party out to lure him to the edge of a bridge or door, and then stand out of his reach and pound on him with enchanted ranged weapons until dead. The problem is, as was said, only +3 enchanted weapons affect them, so you have to find them. Gesen bow works, Tansheron's bow that you buy in Trademeet works, and the Firetooth throwing dagger that you find in Ust'Natha works. They only do one or two points of damage a hit, but you won't get hit yourself.
