Anyone know how to get around the guards?

Post by Nerevarine »

As some of you may know from a few of my morrowind threads, I'm a bit of a theif and a murderer. In Morrowind, it was very easy to steal. Break into a house, take what you want, if nobody sees you, you get off scott free. However, in Oblivion, I can't seem to get away with anything! I robbed this shop called a Fighting Chance and there was no one there. I turn around, and out of nowhere, there's a guard. Is there some way to get around the guards and to steal without being caught in a town or outpost?
You can always become stronger in Morrowind, but it's never enough. PM me if you know what I'm talking about.

I didn't play Morrowind, but the first time I tryed to break into a home in Oblivion, I kept getting caught inside the house within about 30 seconds a guard would materialize.

Not sure if this would be considered a spoiler so I'll use the spoiler feature just in case; Highlight to read
Spoiler
If a guard or someone with high responsibility rating witnesses you lockpicking a door, they will get to you fast, before you can begin to loot. A guard will follow you into the home/shop. Make sure you are in sneak mode and that the sneak mode cursor is dim before going to the lockpicking interface. Sometimes you have to be patient, and wait for guards to move, or turn away.
Hope this helps

my only suggestion is that you sneak skill is simply low.
I never have problems with stealing and never had.

did you go in at night? the shop owner may be asleep but she is just upstairs.
Maybe you somehow woke her?

The only other thing is that i believe she has dogs, which may be awake and aware. somewhere.
Why am I fighting to live, if I'm just living to fight? Why am I trying to see, when there aint nothing in sight? Why am I trying to give, when no one gives me a try? Why am I dying to live, if I'm just living to die?

Thanks, both of you. That was a lot of help. Arrow, you're right, my sneak skill is relatively low. And as for the dogs, they're upstairs.

you also have to make sure you're not seen entering the house. make sure your not being watched by sleaking just before you pick the lock/open the door.
