Hi there, welcome to the forum.

I noticed you started two threads with the same question, which is not good forum etiquette. One thread is sufficient and starting two will not get your question answered any quicker than one will. If you need to add additional information to your post you can always use the edit button. Just trying to be helpful, not picking on you. :)

So, trouble with the slum. Ok, I have NOT noticed this problem in any of my games (I like starting new characters) as a bug, nor have I seen it reported as such on the forum, although I could have missed that. I am also currently playing the Collector's Edition as well.

You say you spoke to Derlinger, and got the password. When you talk to Mr Gribbs just outside the slum, you exhausted every single dialogue option with him? I always save my game just after talking with Derlinger, and when I am sure Gribbs knows I have the password, then I save again in a different slot.

That is one of the things with this game. It can be very fun, but also very frustrating. Even if something isn't a reported bug, things can still go wrong for some bizarre and unknown reason. That is why you should utilize all the save slots and save often. Be sure not to over-write important saves though.

Well, unless one of your chosen first tier classes is rogue, you don't have to get into the slums. Yes, it is good to be able to, but unless you are interested in pursuing a "career" with the Guild of Mystery, this is not a game stopping issue.

Also, I suppose it may be possible to edit in the Custard Mansion map and present it to the guildmaster (for guild of mystery) in Skuldoon if you are interested in adding rogue based classes to your character. I can't say with any degree of certainty if that would work, but....I suppose it would be worth a try. Again, unless you want rogue classes for your character, I wouldn't even worry about this.

However...if you can't get into the slum, don't bother taking on the vampire quest from the NPC in the Fargrove inn.

I recall that prior to 1.5, if you left the jail before Derlinger, for some reason the slums guard wouldn't let you in. You had to wait till Derlinger left the jail, then you could leave without breaking the quest. Don't know if that applies to CE1.5 or not, I just always let Derlinger leave first.
