Choppy gameplay....help

Post by Bobphantom »

Okay, so I'm guessing I know the answer to this (not enough RAM...) but just in case...

I'm running IWD/HoW/ToL on a (somewhat) newer laptop system (Sony VAIO, 512 RAM) on Win XP. Here's my problem...at certain sections of the game I get some seriously choppy gameplay...the movements are jerky and the screen even freezes while the systems tries to crunch out big fights. Now, this is a late 2005 system, and I would think more than enough to run this game. Is this a compatability problem that I can't figure out? Using the configuration utility gives mixed/sporadic results...sometimes reducing the graphics to the bare minimum works, sometimes it doesn't make a difference. I tried the compatability thingie on Win XP but that made the game not work at all. Any ideas? Suggestions? I'm stumped.....

Make sure that your graphics card can handle it. Or turn on 3D-acceleration mode. That might take out a lot of the choppiness, and make everything smooth out like icing on a cake, instead of clump up. =)

But my answer: Go into the configuration tool, and enable 3D Acceleration. If its already on, try lowering the path search nodes (makes pathfinding bad), it can make the game run smoother. And if you already have 3D Accel on. Try turning it off then. I'm not sure if that would do any good. Just a thought. Good Luck!

I have a machine that is about 4 years old now, with integrated Intel graphics and 512mb RAM and it works fine - I play on max graphics and sound settings and 1024x768 mode. The key I've found to getting it to run smoothly is actually to turn OFF 3D acceleration.

I had this too (at Dragons Eye level 5 for example).

Have you installed the game on an external drive? I had, and uninstalling it (note: backup your savgames!!) and reinstalling it on the local drive solved it.
