"Important Side-quest Character X Appears to be busy..."

Post by TheAmazingOopah »

Heya, I have both Shadows of Amn and Throne of Baal installed, but I still have the problem that very often, important characters are unavailable for a long time, just "because they appear to be busy", though they definitely should be open for conversation. I guess this can be defended with role playing arguments of realism, but is also very frustrating at times. Now, I looked at the Gamebanshee Baldur's Gate 2 Downloads page, and there it said that you could download the latest "official" BG2 patch, Version 23037.

(http://www.gamebanshee.com/baldursgateii/downloads.php, the top one).
I looked it up, and it appeares to take away, when installed, the "being busy" thing. I was unable to install it, however, because I already had installed Throne of Baal, which should take care of as many bugs as this patch does. But: even with ToB installed, I still have the "being busy" bother going on. What is wrong here? What should I install to unable it?

Did you apply any patches before installing ToB? If so then this could be the problem and you will need to do a full reinstall of both SoA and ToB (just remember to back your saves up first)

Nope, I installed SoA and ToB inmediately after that, quite recently, and I didn't install any patches in between. By the way, I have the version that is English spoken, so either the American or the English version. (just in case that that would be useful)

Whilst this will not solve your problem, it might make a workable workround for you. I have discovered that when I have this problem, if I leave the area and return, it is usually fixed.

I've read about the ToB "busy" bug many times on these forums.

Try uninstalling everything, and use this installation order:

1) SoA

2) ToB (this patches SoA)

3) ToB patch 26498, available here:
BioWare: BG II: Throne of Bhaal Patches

Report back on how it goes. Good Luck.
Why is it that whenever I finally get around to playing a new game for the first time,
I feel like playing Baldur's Gate for the second time...

I did as you said, and it worked! Now everyone wants to talk to me. Gosh, I'm so popular. :D

This definitely makes the game go a lot smoother. Thanks for the tip, CFM :)

There are also other Baldurdash Fix downloads available too, although I have no experience with them. Do a forum search, or check out the stickied thread, for more info. Have fun, Oopah!
