I would like to get recomendations for likes of Diablo 2 and Icewind Dale, Vampire The Masquerade but they should have very strong plotline too. I would also aprreciate if the games had graphics of Diablo 2 or higher. Thank you for your help!

Titan Quest and Sacred are similar to diablo 2, and they have more sidequests and plotlines.
Neverwinter Nights and Temple of Elemental Evil are similar to icewind dale, but use 3rd edition rules rather than 2nd.
Vampire the masquerade? There's only two games like that, V:Tm- Redemption and V:Tm-Bloodlines, nothing really similar to those two in the gaming industry unless you buy the tabletop books.

Let me be the first here (there will be many others who'll concur
) to endorse the Baldur's Gate series and Planescape Torment.
These two games use the same engine as IWD and have similar graphics. But, they are far more based on story and NPC interaction.

The combat in BG2 was "sticky?"Warggoath wrote:I am looking for games similiar to those I mentioned. I will try Planescape Torment but Baldur's Gate series didnt work for me. The combat seemed somekind sticky but I have played only second one....
How so? If it doesn't work for you, fair enough, but I'm honestly curious.
Another game you may want to consider is Morrowind Game of the Year Edition. It's totally different to the aforementioned games, but certainly worth a look, especially because of the scores of player-made mods available for it.
Anyway, there is a similar thread to this that was started quite recently, which may also give you some information, you can find it here.

Why do you prefer Oblivion anyway? Is it the graphics?

it is as strange as the sticky feeling to bd 2 combat. I played Arx Fatalis with my friend for a ****ing long time and so I grew into that game. Then my friend bought TES Morrowind but as I still lived in the dark dungeons of Arx it didnt feel good/familiar. It doesnt have anything to do with the graphics. For me it just seems so souless and as I said my comp doesnt meet even mininum reqs of Oblivion so I have to play it on mininuum graphics and still it lags. And next the sticky combat of BD 2. First rpg I played was Diablo 2 and so I grew into the combat oriented gameplay of Diablo 2. So BD 2 seems not so fast pased and that is why it seems sticky....Tricky wrote:Why do you prefer Oblivion anyway? Is it the graphics?

To be able to make recommandations that suits you, it would be good if you give us more details.
What do you mean by strong plotline? Did you think Icewind Dale or Diablo had a strong plotline?
What did you enjoy the most in the games you mentioned (D2, IWD, VtM:R)? Story? Combat? Monsters? Loot?
What is your definition of a RPG?
etc.
Recommandations will differ a lot depending on your answers.
For exemple, I am a very big fan of the Baldur's Gate series and would give them 10/10 while I would give Diablo a 6/10. On the contrary, I have a friend who is a big Diablo fan and I offered him the complete BG serie for his birthday, but he never finished the first one.
Edit: OK, you started answering some of my questions while I was writing them. If you are more into action/combat oriented games, then skip Planescape Torment. This is a story oriented game were you could be hours without fighting. I think Siberys was heading in the right direction when he recommanded Titan Quest and Sacred. Maybe Dungeon Siege and Deus Ex also. Since Neverwinter Nights has a big community on the net and some modules that are combat oriented you might also enjoy it. If you could add even more details about what you like, then we will be able to target some titles even better.

Well okay, back to typing...For me strong plotline is like reading a good book. It should have lot a depth and descriptions to each npc which have something to do with the plotline. And yes, it should include twists and I just don't mind the basic good vs evil plotline. That was one point which picked my interest in vtm: Bloodlines. But it should be very combat oriented like Diablo 2 having random generated loot and in best case random generated maps. And I like my rpg very dark and gothic from graphical side. I do not need any beatiful graphics.

The reason I wanted you to elaborate is because I find your demand rather contradicting. You insisted one the plotline, but you mentioned IWD and D2 which both have almost no plotline IMO. As for VtM:R (I have not played Bloodlines yet), I also found that the story was the strongest element of the game, but it lacked the freedom of choice that comes with games like BG and PST (which is why I prefered the latter ones).
If I understand your likings well, I think you could enjoy Deus Ex pretty much even though there is no random loot and maps in it. Have a look at the game description to see if it suits you.
And I'll repeat it again, like Siberys said, there is Sacred and Titan Quest that look pretty much like Diablo.

I thank you for elaborating. There's a more than a bit of anti-Oblivion sentiment on these forums, so I was afraid you might take my question for sarcasm. In the past, people have been less friendly with me when I was in fact trying for sarcasm.Warggoath wrote:it is as strange ...

Well, and there is a reason why I like more darker games. It is because of my ideology/beliefs. I could be called satanist but that would be false. There is many points I do not accept in satanism. I would count myself into Luciferianism I dont start listing my views here, if there is topic for that I do it there...Off topic I know and I hope you do not start disliking me because my views...Tricky wrote:I thank you for elaborating. Of course not, that would be very much against my own.
But you're right, threads need to stay on topic. I'll discontinue this conversation, lest I incur the wrath of the demi-mods.

Everyone on GB is entitled to their views and beliefs and the rules clearly state that people aren't allowed to treat anyone differently or flame anyone because of these so you don't have to worry about that hereWarggoath wrote:Off topic I know and I hope you do not start disliking me because my views...
As for games, I'm playing Temple of Elemental Evil. It uses 3rd Edition rules but has quite a bit of combat in it as well as bits of dialogue and roleplay elements. Its not really got the strongest storyline, about on par with Icewind Dale, and is very similar in terms of gameplay and rules to Icewind Dale 2. I'm enjoying playing it, although its still not on the same level as the BG series but I'd say its easily as good as the Icewind Dale series. Its a bit buggy but the Co8 mod and patches add new quests as well as fix most of the bugs in it

Feel free to call me crazy, but if you can handle the graphics Ultima Underworld 1 and 2 are really great RPG's. In fact, Arx Fatalis was originally meant to be UU 3.

For games in a similar vein to Diablo 2, I would recommend Titan Quest as what Siberys mentioned previously, Freedom Force and Dungeon Siege.Warggoath wrote:I would like to get recomendations for likes of Diablo 2 and Icewind Dale, Vampire The Masquerade but they should have very strong plotline too. For games similar to Icewind Dale, I could recommend Neverwinter Nights series and the Fallout series to name a few. Can't be of much help here as I really dislike top-down RPGs after playing Diablo 2 (a game which I detest very much).
As for Vampires: The Masquerade, I can't be of much help here as I don't know any RPGs that are similar to this game other than Half-Life 2, which is an FPS that has horror elements and uses the same Source engine that powered Vampires: The Masquerade. Sorry for being off-topic here.
''They say truth is the first casualty of war. But who defines what's true? Truth is just a matter of perspective.
