Need Character Skill/Stat Help

Post by Synicism »

I'm currently playing a Adept/Mage - which I plan on turning into a Adept/Mage/BattleMage/Paladin/Warlock. I'm currently level 11 and I'm at the end of the Elder Trials.

What skills/stats should I be trying to build up? What weapons/armor should I be looking for?

It seems like to get Med Armor lvl 5 I need to have Light Armor lvl 6. Should I assume that Heavy Armor and the weapon skills are going to work the same. So I need to raise light/med to get the same level in heavy?

To get medium armor 5 you need light armor 5. You are correct that your heavy armor is dependent upon which skill level light and medium are at. So, for example if you leave light and medium at 5, you will only be able to raise heavy armor to 5. Your medium and heavy armor skill is dependent on your light armor skill, the same works for any other skills like that; specifically weapons and shields

For what to concentrate on, intelligence is always a good thing to spend points on. It helps a magic user, and it lowers the cost of raising other skills. It doesn't give a huge discount, but at high levels, it really does make a difference. Your other attributes are also good places to spend points on, although I never spend points on honor, unless I don't have enough to meet a class requirement. That rarely happens, but it is a consideration. The cost to raise attributes depends on the race of your character. Hoepfully you are not playing an Urgoth...they get stuck in the Collector's Edition and are the hardest to raise intelligence for. I read this elsewhere and actually tested it myself and found it to be true. Do I have alot of time on my hands? Erm, maybe.

I typically only raise my skills just enough to meet class requirements. Once you have all your learning bonuses in place then you can raise your skills for the least amount of points. After I know I have received the most learning bonuses I am going to get, then I look at the type of gameplay I think I am going to do and raise my skills accordingly.

Since you know already what you want to do, you could review the class information and keep track of the learning bonuses you will be receiving. I must confess, I tend to do things like that.I get very analytical and keep a little notebook about skills I need to work on, class requirements and learning bonuses. Dork alert... :o :p

So, I guess where to spend points really depends on what kind of character you are going for. Paladin and Battlemage are both fighting oriented magic users...are you going to use more magic or do more fighting? If the former, concentrate on magic, if the latter concentrate on weapons, armor and strength. Given that you say you are interested in those classes specifically leads me to believe you want to do more fighting, but still have some magic bonuses.

*edit* You can read about attributes and how they affect your character here:
