Hi, all! Basically, I'm looking for some games to play. I've got a brand new machine, so I don't have too many limits on what it can handle, which means for the first time in forever, I can go crazy with games. (My old PC was a windows 98 with 10 gb which made things a little limited.)
So what I'd like is some suggestions for some RPGs to play. Here's a brief description of my gaming taste:
Games that are currently on my computer:
- Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines. Easily my favorite game. I love the dark, creepy atmosphere, and the modern environment. I love all the RPG elements ... lots of dialogue choices, side quests, etc. My only complaints are a few of the later environments (for those who've played the game: the hollywood sewers and the hallowbrook hotel.) My reason for disliking said places? Too much of a dungeon crawl. I enjoy atmosphere, personality, and lots of choices. I'm not too crazy about combat, or dungeons.
* As a side note, I tried playing Vampire: Redemption, but couldn't get into it. The story had potential, and I love the World Of Darkness, but it seemed like every other conversation was a dungeon crawl, which for me is the ultimate in boring and frustrating.
- Fable: The Longer Chapters. This game has gotten a lot of criticism, but it was still fun to play. I enjoy being able to customize a character, and although this didn't offer the kind of dialogue that Vampire did, you still got to make some basic decisions about your character, such as your appearance, your alignment, and which quests you wanted to take, and the world reacting to your character traits. I do wish that the NPCs had been less generic, and that you actually got dialogue options other than "yes" and "no."
- Knights Of The Old Republic: Again, a lot of fun. Pretty nice graphics, interactions with party members, an interesting storyline, RPG elements and lots of dialogue choices. It was a lot of fun. Although I prefered the darker atmosphere of Vampire: Bloodlines, you can't always have that, and Kotor was also an enjoyable RPG.
I also highly enjoyed the Baldur's Gate series. I used to play that quite a lot. I enjoyed the decision making aspects, and party interaction. I do prefer 3D graphics, because I find the atmosphere to be more memorable and the game more readily immersive, but for a great game like Baldur's Gate I can make exceptions.
So, hopefully what I've just told you, in an incredibly long winded way, will give you an idea of what I'm into.
Games I'm considering are:
Jade Empire
Deus Ex (although I'm not considering this one as strongly, since it sounds like it might be a bit too FPS for my taste. input appreciated from those who have played it.)
Planescape: Torment (I'm willing to overlook the dated graphics, because it sounds like an interesting story)
Kotor2
Indigo Prophecy
The Longest Journey
(Indigo Prophecy and The Longest Journey sound kind of linear, however. Input from those who've played them? Are they? However, I've heard they have a good story and atmosphere so I'm willing to consider them.)
Basically what I'm interested in are comments about the games I listed above, from those who have played them, and reccommendations for other games that aren't on the list. Help me out? Please?

Planescape: Torment, without question. Easily the best RPG ever made.
The Longest Journey is not an RPG, but a graphical adventure. An excellent one, but not what you asked about.

To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
It's more RPG than FPS, to be honest. Not a bad game if you ask me, though I'm not into those kind of games. Wasn't my cup of tea if you ask me.Eadaii wrote: Deus Ex (although I'm not considering this one as strongly, since it sounds like it might be a bit too FPS for my taste. input appreciated from those who have played it.)
If you liked KOTOR, I'm sure you will enjoy this game as well, though do expect to come across a lot of bugs and a story with many plotholes to name a few problems. It's still enjoyable, though not as much as the first game.Eadaii wrote: Kotor2
I've heard that Indigo Prophecy is a good adventure game, along with the Longest Journey (point-and-click adventure game). The latter I've played and I can tell you that both the story and the puzzles are good.Eadaii wrote: Indigo Prophecy

''They say truth is the first casualty of war. But who defines what's true? Truth is just a matter of perspective. The duty of every soldier is to protect the innocent, and sometimes that means preserving the lie of good and evil, that war isn't just natural selection played out on a grand scale. The only truth I found is that the world we live in is a giant tinderbox. All it takes...is someone to light the match" - Captain Price

I second Fable and Bloodstalker for Planescape Torment.
As for Deus Ex, quite funnily, I disagree with DesR85. I did not consider it more RPG than FPS. The feeling is the feeling of a FPS, the way your character moves, the way you kill people, etc., but the big difference between Deus Ex and most FPS is that in Deus Ex, you do not have to kill everybody. In fact, in Deux Ex, you don't gain any experience for killing ennemies, so you can concentrate on the story and kill only those you absolutely need to kill. There is a good story (and I mean good, not very good, not average), almost no character creation/advancement, not much choices to make. The way I describe it, it may not sound very fun, but it was. I don't enjoy FPS very much (I found Half Life extremely boring), but I enjoyed Deus Ex. I hated it in the beginning, because I thought I had to kill everyone, but while advancing and realizing I could just move and get into the story, I enjoyed it better. Anyway, you can get it on ebay for 5 $, so you don't have much to loose.
Have you played the Fallout series? If not, you should consider it seriously.

That's pretty much how I felt about Deus Ex. At first I found it so hard to get into but once I realised it wasn't just another "kill everything that moves" game and just started playing it how I wanted to play it, I really enjoyed it. Its not an rpg though, at least not in my opinion. There are choices to make which ultimate determine the ending, but there is very little roleplaying involved. I'd call it more an action/adventure game with FPS elements and a few RPG elements, but I still love the story even after playing it several times and find it to be a very addictive game once you get into it.Gilliatt wrote: I don't enjoy FPS very much (I found Half Life extremely boring), but I enjoyed Deus Ex.
