Importing saved files

I was recently playing Baldurs Gate Shadows of Amn with the expansion installed I had attempted to travel to Umar Hills multiple times however the game would tell me to insert disk three even though I had the full install. No matter what disk i inserted it would eject again. I tried reinstalling it but first I copied the files in the save folder in hopes that i would not have to start my entire game over. my main question is how to import a saved file because it isnt working.
