Crash Ch.III - Spoilerish

Post by Adahn »

I've checked here on the forums to see if anyone had this problem before and (apparently not). I also checked on the NWN2 forum, and apparently some other dude has the same problem I had but no one answered his thread, which is a bit sad but w/e. Anyway - I hope you guys can help because I'm running out of ideas ^^;

The problem is this, in Chapter III - after I ready the defences in Crossroad Keep, you're supposed to talk to Nevalle and go on to the next bit. Well, when I speak to Nevalle, it loads, loads and then it lags for a second near the 'loading location' bit, the music skips and it quits to windows.

When I started that game I had already patched it up to 1.05 and I had no problems except for that single one.

It reads:
C:\Programmi\Atari\Neverwinter Nights 2\nwn2main.exe, run by user.
C:\Programmi\Atari\Neverwinter Nights 2\nwn2main.exe caused an Access Violation exception in module nwn2main.exe at 001b:00727834.
Read from location 00000e14 caused an access violation.
Now I've tried re-installing and re-patching it up, I've tried updating my drivers and the rest of it. (though I doubt that was the problem) And I've also changed all the folders and files in it from 'read only' to not. And I keep getting the exact same problem. - Is there some kind of fix I can perform, or is the zone where it's loading to corrupted?

If so can anyone send me the file or what?

(Most likely) Could be a problem with your saved game. Try loading an earlier save, or playing again from the begining (I know it sucks, but its not as bad as never being able to finish the game.)

Could be some other software on your computer. Try turning off every non critical application and process first. Also, disconnect from the internet and turn off any anti-virus.

Could be a compatibility thing with some hardware on your computer. See if you can find out about the computer of the other guy who had your problem. Also, try instaling on a different computer and load the save.

Maybe you check that none of the files are compressed or encrypted (NTFS partitions can do that sometimes).

Could be a problem with your CD. You could try instaling from someone elses CD, or ask Bioware for a replacement (good luck).

Could be a problem with registry. If so its way above my head.

Well I've corrected the registry and the thing about the save is basically that I have two saves - one that I saved and loads fine, before I went for the Whendersnaven, and another that also loads fine after I went for the Wendersnaven - both of which are infront of the Nevalle. And I can go out of the keep to anywhere else there's no problem - the problem is -juse- when I hit 'continue' once he's done talking.

I hate to play it once more from the start but I think I'll do that. I didn't like my dual-dwarf-axe weilding barbarian anyway. I guess I'll let you know if the problem persists. Oy.

Found a solution to this problem

Go to the map transition point outside and remove all characters (except yours) from the party and try talking to Nevale again.
