Duchal Palace Chapter VII

Post by KRYTON »

I have Xan summon some monsters and scroll through the conversations from the dukes and when they turn to Doppelgangers the monsters and FF guards finish off the 'dukes'. But after Sarevok says that I have failed he summons "Holy Flame' or something on me. A column of flame shoots down and fries me to a crisp and then its game over for me. I've tried a few times and it happens everytime.

Help.

This has never happened to me. I assume it's the same holy flame that occurs everytime you do something that breaks the plot (attack grand duke Eltan, etc). The only condition for failure I can imagine, is the death of the 2 dukes at the Duchal Palace. Liia Jannath and Belt. This turns the Flaming Fist hostile to you.

You will have to save the two Grand Dukes one way or another. The Flaming Fist is there to help you so long as you keep them alive. Focus on the 6 dopplegangers and ignore Sarevok. Dispel magic will help if they haste/mirror image, but there's not much else to say.

Good luck!

Spoilerish:

After the battle, the Dukes will help you take the next step. If they die, they cannot do that and the main quest will 'break'.
My advice is: summon more monsters (skeletons are a good choice), buff 'em up and position them around the Dukes so the Shapeshifters won't touch them (too much). You might try healing them if they take hits.

Coot's advice is good. Other possible tactics to use are:
1) Summon monsters well away from the dukes in order to lure doppelgangers away from the dukes.
2) Use web in the vicinity of the dukes so that the dukes don't get involved in the battle.
3) After they have become doppelgangers, charm some of them using Algernon's cloak. NB It doesn't work if you charm them beforehand. It "breaks" the programming.
Most important use your own imagination to work out your own methods. There are lots of different tactics that you can use, none of them the "right" one.

I had Xan use a potion of invisibility and put him on the steps. I had someone go inside to start the conversation and after it ended I had Xan cast a dispell magic. It slowed all of them down and then the fighters went to work.

Thanks.
