tob question (spoiler)
does anyone know who assembles the big metal unit? who am i suppose to take the pants to? and is there any way to import them into another game like bg or bg2?
I think that if you have the proper equipment (the gold and silver pantaloons, and the bronze pantalettes), you can take it to a gnome blacksmith in amkethran. he's in one of the buildings with the mage from saradush on your way up to the top of the cliff. if you don't have the right equipment, he really won't talk to you.

Just out of curiosity, anyone know if the weapon for the big metal unit corresponds to a particular weapon profiency. for example if one has ++ for crossbow profiency will they be more effective with the big metal units weapon as compare to if they had none? or does it not matter.

The weapon is considered as a crossbow; so yes, putting proficiency points for crossbow would mean the weapon is more effective. You'll gain all the bonuses, just like with a normal crossbow.
Also you can equip anyone with the weapon, they don't have to be wearing the Big Metal Unit; same for the ammunitions.

Thanks Sabre, That't good to know. i finished Tob around 5am this morning with my party that i started out with from shadows of Amn two weeks ago. I'll take a little break now, and maybe next time I'll use the Big metal unit, The only characters with crossbow profiency in my part was Saverok and Keldorn and they had great weapons on them already so I did not use the big metal units weapon. Keldorn (upgraded holy avenger). Saverok (upgraded halberd +6).
