Has anyone ever soloed the game without items?

Post by Aerydon »

I have a cleric lvl 11/ mage lvl 16 and base most battles around two spells, project image and aerial servant. Got Kangaxx, the two lich's prior to him, all four dragons, and the last two encounters with Irenicus with them. The lich's and Irenicus are basically materializing in one fixed location. I surround that from anywhere between 5 to 8 aerial servants depending on the amount of room available, and perform a gang bang, 100 to 150 points damage before their shields come up ... end of story. Shangalar was did in in a similar way, the projected image could place skull traps around where the mage, vampire, beholder, and fighter would materialize without triggering his entrance... servants were waiting around his spot ... no battle all gone in a second.

Just project image, have it summon 4 aerial servants (I have extra slots because of 25 wisdom) and have them kill the image, and repeat with another image, never needed more than 8 servants in any situation.

Only with clusters of beholders is it a little different, then the image after protected with defensive spells goes in as a mage bomb, surviving just long enough to cast one incendiary cloud which finishes the job.

Whole game can be finished without using any items (with the obvious exception of selling them) ... no scrolls, armor, weapons, anything.

I can imagine a theif/mage doing it ... I have no experience with that ... but think it would be harder. I am interested to know of other soloers and their experiences.

Have not played ToB ... but I have a feeling if I went one more level to lvl 12 on the cleric it would have been better in the long run ... but then I might miss out on lvl 8 wizard spells, ala incendiary cloud in this game.

This is my first post here ... its a great game ... hope everyone else enjoyed it as much as I did.

Well, here's a question for you - have you ever tried to solo the game without exploits?

You are summoning more than the allowed number of monsters via Projected Images. Nothing wrong in that, the game allows it, but it is simply a bug which so far remains unfixed. You're not supposed to have more than 5 monsters of any kind. And some special summons, like the Planetar or the Deva, are normally restricted to only one on the battlefield at a time. With a solo sorcerer, via Projected Image and Wish spells I can summon very quickly about 20-25 planetars and let them do all the fights for me(since those things cannot be killed by a Death Spell). But this pretty much takes the fun out of the game. It is way cheesier than not using items.

Yes, 5 aerial servants is definitely possible ... that's all I could use against the Lich's and Kangaxx ... Shangalar was done with 5 though I could have surrounded with 8 ... the last two battles with Irenicus could also have been done with 5 rather than 8 ... its not so much the damage done on the first series of blows but the disruption of his spell trigger ... its the precise timing that is difficult, after that he's toast ... also, in the final battle, the slayer is vulnerable to fire too, I threw in a minute meteor to pitch in a measly 10hp of damage when the servants did the 140+ to bring him near death ... I should have used spell sequencer with 3 fire arrows for 90 to 100 hp damage ... so it can be done

I dont know much about ToB ... but in SoA after using the images to summon more than 5 creatures ... the limited wish spell counted the genie as an extra summons and wouldn't allow it, only the images can summon past it
