That depends what character are you playing...

For example, many characters may find Tomi good addition, though thief -class would get more from either caster -type character or melee character. Also, some melee type characters may find casters more usefull than Tomi, as they should be able to bash most of the chests open, and with enough hp they can withstand most of the traps...

I usually run with Daelan (or what his name is - Red Tiger), as meele henchmen suffer least from the poor henchmen AI in the game.

I'm the same as Xandax - on the rare occasions I actually take a henchman, I tend to go for Daelan (or sometimes Grimgnaw or whatever he is called). I also quite like Linu, but she does tend to die a lot). Spellcaster henchman are a complete nightmare because the AI is so bad.

i am a cleric.....i thought boddyknock is better, i tends to use him more as he can cast magic and at time, knock out chest. i like Redtiger too, as he really can bash up bad guys.

tomi is good for opening chest........

I like Grimgnaw, though Daelan isn't bad either. But that's just because I can open locks and disable traps myself, I can't imagine not having someone in my team who can do that. A healer is sometimes nice as well, but I don't believe them to be required. I only take a caster with me when I'm desperate, and then I still consider soloing above it.

who's best if you're a thief? I have used the half-orc melee character, but I would like a good healer who can remove negative effects etc. I tried the cleric elf woman, but she doesn't seem to do much good.. I can't control her spell-casting and she just sporadically casts a healing spell. She doesn't remove other negative effects (at least not yet...)

Spellcaster henchman AI is awful in this game - you'd be better off taking a melee orientated henchman and then use the stone of recall to go to a temple for healing ... gold is not exactly a rare commodity in NWN so the tiny amount you pay to use the stone of recall really is not noticeable.

I agree! If you are using henchmen, go for the tanks -- Gringmaw or Daelen. Tomi is good for traps & chests, but really you can make up for that using Gringmaw or Daelen to trigger the traps & bash the chest for the most part, then rest up to heal them -- they usually have enough HP to survive.

There are a few traps and one or two chests that this method fails on -- in which case you go back for Tomi, or use spells if you are a wizard or sorcerer to trigger / destroy them. Or ignore them -- because although it's fun to see what is in those really tough chests -- my experience is more than half the time I'm going to sell the magic item instead of using it.... and as Mr. Sir says, gold is not exactly rare.

I went through the whole game with an imported epic Paladin from SoU/HotU (started at 27th level), and my magic items were way better than what you can get in the OC, so I sold everything I found. By the end of Chapter 3 I had over 1.8 MILLION gold, so I stopped collecting stuff (although it was hard because my curiousity almost compels me to check every remains, chest, barrel & crate just in case it has something, even though it's almost always a basic potion or a few gold. :D )

My 2 cents (or is that 2 million gold at today's exchange rate?)
