I finished HotU last night for maybe the third time. I've created dozens of characters but the only ones I ever enjoy playing are some variety of elf rogue- I love the versatility and the active detect feature elves have. My first character was a Human Fighter/Bard/RDD- a melee meathead who was fun and had a few issues at times. My second character was a Druid/Shifter/Assassin that was nearly impossible to keep alive.
Anyway, the character I used last night absolutely kicked the pants off of HotU, from top to bottom. He was the most powerful character I've ever played, and ended up at level 30 as an Elf Rogue 18/Wizard 1/ Arcane Archer 11. I was shocked by how easy the game was. I mowed down everyone in my path, never had a problem with a trap, and at the end of the game had 3 mil gp to spend on names. I killed Mephistopheles without taking any damage (although my henchmen did take some). The only enemy who gave me trouble was the demi-lich because he is sneak/crit immune and has huge DR. I used Deekin as a pack mule for the entire game, never really needing him for more than dialogue and identification purposes.
I was so impressed by this build (I've never made an archer before, but now I'm convinced of the potency) that I want other people to post characters that stomped through a module with little or not problem.
So, please post the module and the character, with a little elaboration about what made them great!
My level 10 bard/ 20 arcane archer also didn't seem to have much trouble kicking butt in HOTU, my henchmen were first Deekin and Nathyrra and in chapter 3 I traded Deekin in for Aribeth but mere mostly there just to look pretty.
Urdnott Wrex: This is the famous turian general? It's a wonder your kind ever defeated us.
General Septimus: I may be drunk, krogan, but you're ugly. And tomorrow I'll be sober. -mass effect
I'm having a lot of fun and not much trouble playing a pure Paladin (currently 27th level).... used Deekin & the half-orc barbarian fighter (forget his name) in Chapter 1, Deekin & Nathyrra in Chapter 2, and Deekin & Aribeth in Chapter 3 (actually played Chapter 3 twice -- first time without Deekin and still had no trouble).
There were only 2 battles in the whole game I had to repeat:
Chp 2 against the Draco-lich
Chp 3 against the 4th Guardian (in the puzzler's sepulcher)
The first because of the massive damage caused by the breath weapon (I didn't have any protection against it)
The second because it was just so hard to damage (1st time neither Aribeth nor I could damage it at all!!)
In the final part of Chp 3 deepest wastes of cania (just when you get to where the Keeper of Names is imprisoned), I am able to wade into waves of those demons the final guardian throws at you... and they can barely touch me ... and when they do they get hit back by my searing armor automatically, and I regenerate 3 hp per round anyway.... also having Great Cleave really helps!
Buffed up stats:
53 AC (including +9 Divine Shield)
359 hp
Attack: +44/+43/+38 (hasted)
Dmg: 1-8 +9 STR bonus, +5 base weapon modifier, +2d6 sonic, +9 Divine Might, +5 holy weapon spell
On hit: 5 points vampiric regeneration & opponent must make fortitude save vs. DC-24 or lose 2-4 STR
Balor Lords go down in only 2 or 3 rounds, Frost Giants in 1 - 3 rounds...
the puzzlers (previous area) were down in 1 round usually.
