1.68 patch causes problems!

Post by Tauros »

Hello all!
Long time reader, first time poster. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas about why the 1.68 patch makes my henchman (regardless of which one it is) seem to have two lives. They fight, they die, the card dissappears, but they then get up and keep bashing away until they die again. This time they stay dead, but are not revived in the temple of Tyr or at the 'Trade of blades', they vanish. This happens both on my saved games and on any new game i start. The patch also seems to make the game jerky, despite remaining on the pre-patch graphic settings. Has anyone else had this problem, can it be fixed? Any help would be appreciated, thanks for reading!

I have the 1.68 patch, too, but I had to get some obscure "in-between" patch before the "Update" feature in the game would take it. I'm using the Diamond Edition DVD of NWN, btw.

After I got the "in-between" patch, the 1.68 went fine w/o any problems. No obvious game bugs showed up yet that I've seen.

Mmm. Intresting. The patch installed without any problems, i got it from the official site,so i dont think thats the problem. Where did you get the 'in between' patch from? I could check it out to be on the safe side. Nothing i try seems to make a difference. I just hope i dont have to reinstall! Suppose i could just do it without a henchman, but that loses xp through the hench quests and means i have no help! I have SoU installed, would it fix the problem if i also installed HotU?

I think I said it wrong, Tauros, sorry. The 1.68 patch WAS the "in-between" patch. When that was done, the "Update" feature of the game worked fine after that. But the "Update" feature was at the beginning of game load and I had to deliberately click on it before it would update anything. The first time I tried to update it, it said that it couldn't do it until the 1.68 patch was applied first. Sorry for the miscommunication.

Again, I used the Diamond Edition and installed both the SoU and HoU expansions that came with it. I installed everything right from the get-go.

Speaking of henchman, today when I was using the half-orc guy as my henchman and I was using the portal to get back to where my character was killed, he didn't come with me. So I ported back to the temple and had to speak with him again to get him to come with me. He said in a new dialogue that he got nervous about the near-death experience and then magically appearing back in the temple. After my character reassured him, he was fine. I don't know, maybe you might've had a similar problem like that.

Btw, I saw in one of those tips and tricks suggestions that we get at every game area load-in that some areas, death is final and permanent! :-O
When I saw that tip, I thought, "Ulp! Better be a bit more careful! As if losing xp and gold isn't bad enough!"

Thanks for getting back to me Trollsbane. Like i say the 1.68 patch installed just fine, and clicking the update on the main game menu screen only results in the message that the game already has the patch. I can get visible cloaks and all that jazz, even the character movement seems slightly different, but henchmen still do the fight, die, get up, die, vanish thing! HotU should arrive in post tommorrow (wonderous ebay!) so i shall uninstall all and reinstall with Hotu added and see if that makes a difference. Perhaps the problem is that i was upgrading from v1.27? Such is life.
On a side note, its always worth saving your game regularly to avoid the respawn gold/xp penalty, and the enourmous dissapointment that accompanies your character being squashed in areas where respawning is not possible.
