I realize that my original topic belongs rather in this forum... sorry. Just for reference, my original post:

I just wanted to post my 2 cents concerning the new board.
I really appreciate the new "Member" and "Exalted Member" ranking - if you really want to know, you can always take a look at the profile to see how many posts the member has. On some other boards I know, the permanent display of the number of posts under the username of a message has led to some really annoying behaviour. Veterans not taking seriously newbies because of their lack of posts, newbies ducking out if some veteran opposes their opinion.
To clarify: I haven't noticed stuff like this on Gamebanshee, which is part of the reason why I like it so much.

That said, I really dislike the idea of "rating members".
Why? Well, the only purpose of the whole affair I can see is to give the voices of members who contribute useful and well thought out posts more weight - not a bad idea in itself.
However, older members will already know who is just a bigmouth and who really contibutes good content. On the other hand, a newbie should create his own opinion about the "worth" of a poster. I for one think it a bit strange if I come to a board and get "told" who is an interesting person and who not. I think I can decide this for myself.
So, the one advantage that rating could have is IMHO redundant, and the only possible effects left are the disadvantages described at the beginning of my post.
I vote to turn the feature off. What do you think?

Just one small question.

Is it possible to save your password?
When I first registered my password was saved so I automatically logged in when entering the site. Now I have to write my password every time I come here.

Can you/I do something about this?

(And thanx for a great site, too!)

I don't feel really strongly about this, but...I do prefer the option I've seen on a few boards that let's you choose whether to save your password as a cookie, or to enter it everytime you wish to post. Basically, I don't like cookies; I suppose I'm sensitized by spyware (such as that disgusting Comet Cursor) which tracks wherever you click on the internet, and sends back (without your permission) this information, and other computer facts, to certain websites.

I fully realize GB isn't doing this, but I prefer to enter passwords as required, rather than store 'em. Just my POV.

I'm with fable on this one. I've customized my IE security options to enable "temporary" cookies, but that's apparently not good enough for this new BB system. If it's possible, I'd like to have the option of entering my password for each post. I don't consider myself all that paranoid, but cookies are still something I'd rather do without.

On a side note, praise Jesus for Windows 98. In Win95, when deleting cookies, you have to answer an "Are you sure?" pop-up for each and every cookie that you want to delete. This is definitely why I developed such a keen distaste for them. Since upgrading, I've had the luxury of simply saying "Yes to all" when cleaning up my temporary internet folder.

I'd like to have these ratings ditched as well.
I'm getting a bad reputation and I don't even know by who... If I'm doing something wrong, than tell me, instead of making me look like a d*ck... I see that everybody has 5 stars except me. :(
It's a conspiracy I tell you.

EDIT: Also, why is it that on some posts I'm not rated at all? How does this rate system work? Am I rated differently in every thread or something?

Well the new icons suck.

The member ratings idea is just going to be a way for hate campaigns to be waged (and one persons idea of a 3 star perosn may be someone elses idea of a 5 star, even though they hold that person in the same regard!)

Oh, and the fact that you must allow cookies to be stored on your machine to use the board, is a real turn off.

Other than that, well, it seems the same as before :)

Minor complaint; the white and yellow folder colors showing new and read posts don't contrast very well. Any way to use another color?

(This is nothing to do with the upgrade and hardly a complaint.)

I wonder if it is possible to have a special icon for important notification by moderators (and Buck, of course). There are many people who missed the important posts, like this upgrade notification. I think if moderators use particular icon, more people will pay attention to it.

Buck-This version is indeed quicker than the previous version. There was a bad slowdown last night though.IIRC the page doesn't show up and the loading progress bar is only 1/9th full when data transfer stops. However, going offline reveals the full page so I'm not quite sure what caused the page to not show up

Thanks for the reply, Buck. I do have cookies enabled, but the first 2 or 3 times I came here after the upgrade I had to log in manually. Now however it`s working just fine.
